They meant immersive land based on a hit Pixar property IMO. People have clung to them comparing it to Cars Land.
Fully agree here, I don't recall any statement to the point of saying it would be fully immersive as Carsland. Only that it would put the person in Andy's back yard. Folks went running from there.

Even Barnstormer has a height restriction... or are you saying that a coaster in a kiddie area should allow toddlers and have infant seats?

I'm saying building a roller coaster is not helpful if the area's intent is to give those with young children something to do.

To say nothing of the fact that areas like Storybook Cicus are limited in their appeal and scope.

well...they aimed but they may have missed the mark. hah

Personally, I never expected it to ever come close to Carsland, even before the changes.

Exactly.

We all know it was never going to be like Carsland.

All we all keep doing is going back and forth. "I hate it" "it's not that bad" .... lol

And to dan, I was aware of the exact quote, I was just suggesting they meant something different. It obviously wasn't ever going to be on the scale and scope of Carsland.

I'm looking forward to what people have to say once it's open.

Exactly.

We all know it was never going to be like Carsland. So why knock it for being something we all knew it wouldn't be?

I think people are more knocking the delusion of the team at Disney who probably truly believes that it really is just as immersive. Because Andy's very messy backyard! And we're toys! Or... something.

I personally was never under even the smallest of impressions that it would be anywhere near the scope and quality of Carsland, even before the budget was massacred.

I edited out about knocking it because I didn't think the sentence made sense lol.

Now this explanation I understand. They overhyped it right from the start. I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle in trying to slightly defend this land so I think I'll give up. LOL. And again, I've voiced concerns over it as well. It's not my first choice, I dislike what they cut, etc. But I personally have zero issues with the two rides chosen for the land.

So we are to listen to Mangum like we are supposed to listen to the POTUS? "What Kathy meant is...".

It was a poor choice of words. Period.

Immersion is not ornament. It is a consistency of narrative and experience, an enveloping. Toy Story Land most definitely can be as immersive as Cars Land.

I'm not even honestly sure that it could. What else can they do besides the tired "shrunk to the size of a toy in Andy's backyard" trope? Which can really only lend itself to oversized blades of grass and giant tinker toys.

I really feel like you don't want to like it and that you know if feels cheap, wrong, and shortsighted. I dunno, it just feels like there's criticism on the tip of your tongue with your posts in here, but you hold back. Everything you've posted feels like there's a true opinion that you're withholding. :)

I think it's fine if people like this and think it's going to be good. I'm just of the opinion that it's only slightly better than something you might find at a regional park. A flat ride and a roller coaster with a few props scattered about to make it "themed." I hope to be wrong and be impressed with it, but I've experienced one of these Toy Story lands firsthand l, and it's just... not great.

I just expect a lot more from Disney than that and I personally try to hold them accountable to the same standards that they they themselves set. I don't see how people can look at something like Pandora or the new Harambe Market and then look at this and be okay with it. Hell, even Storybook Circus has layers and layers of place making and story telling.

I've given it criticism. Nothing I'm holding back. I actually like the rides we're getting. I'm not 100% on the land itself but I don't agree with all of the criticism towards it.

And why can't Toy Story Land have layers and place making? I think it's being said it won't simply because some people just don't like it.
