Here we go again. You guys did such a great job of answering my Dinosaur post, that I need to ask you about TOT. This time I have rode the ride, and so did my husband. I am just asking for anyone with small kids tall enough to ride this ride, to give me your thoughts. My son rides a ride at our park called the frog jumper. It's a smaller version of TOT. He LOVES it! We also started to let him ride the Jack Rabbit. Anyone who knows Pittsburgh's Kennywood, knows what it is. It drops pretty well and goes airborn in one spot. The 1st time he rode it, he put his head in my armpit. I thought that this is it and I scarred my son for life. After the ride, he looked at me and said let's do it again. He also does the Pirate Ride, which is the huge swing. Again, going down, he hides in my armpit. It didn't take long to realize he likes these rides, but he doesn't know what to do with the "butterflies", but I don't want to traumatize him either. With that said, what is you experiences with your kids and the TOT.:D

If he has done rides similar to this in the past, just ask him what he would like to do. I would explain to him that it has a bigger drop, and maybe show him a video if you can find one (like from a planning video or DVD). You know your child best and if you think that he would enjoy it, then he probably will:wave: If you think that maybe he should wait a bit, then that's the best suggestion:animwink:

The TOT and the jack rabbit drop are just a little different.:p Even if the dropping and the butterflies don't bother him to much you have to remember that there is a lot leading up to that. In the library they show the black and white clip with some thunder and lightning in the windows of the room and the lights go out....it can be a little creepy. Also on the way to the drop there are some scary things...loud noises, "ghosts," and darkness. Also just hearing the screams from outside might be enough to make a kid a little shy about the ride. All that being said I have seen a lot of kids come of the ride and they are ready to get right back in line and do it again. I haven't checked the Dinosaur thread for awhile but there is a special on AK on travel channel this week...I'm sure they will show some of Dinosaur so it might give you a chance to check it out.

You did not mention how old he was!!! Not that it really matters but I say let him go for it. If he doesn't mind the elevator affect (all men know what I am talking about) then he should be fine... oh and there is plenty of weightlessness on this ride. So if you don't mind feeling like you are floating and being pulled down at the same time.... the this ride is for him
Good luck

The pre-show in the library can be a little intense for some kids, but after 1 ride my then 8 and 9 year olds were loving it. The ride itself isnt as bad as most other "drop" rides i've riden in smaller parks. My kids are now 11 and 12, and TOT is one of theire favorite rides in the world!:)

My younger ds was able to ride MS, TofT, TT, SM, etc. when he was 4 1/2 yo. Unlike me, he is a thrill ride-junkie! He cannot wait to be tall enough for RnRC.

I'm actually from Youngstown, Ohio (originally from Pittsburgh area, though) and my kids have ridden on the Frog Hopper dozens of times. I will warn you that the difference in drops from the FH to the TOT is tremendous. However, it is so dark on TOT that your son probably won't notice the difference in height. The only thing my son was scared of were the parts leading up the drop (the mirror cracking, etc.). He actually enjoyed the dropping part of it. But, I will tell you, BIG, BIG difference between Jack Rabbit and Frog Hopper and TOT. I say put him on once and see what happens. Obviously he's not that intimidated by bigger rides.
