Tower of Terror for 4 1/2 year old girl...what do you think?

This is a hard one. As long as the child wants to get on and understands the type of ride it is - then I am all for it. Just do not be like the father I saw 2 weeks ago with a daughter (she looked about 5 or 6) and she was balling crying that she did not want to get on ToT. Yet, the father insisted and told her to "man up" and stop crying.

My three year old boy rode it at DCA last week. He loved it. In fact, walking up to it, he proclaimed it his favorite ride before getting on it. Once he rode, it was his favorite ride until he went on Star Tours and Space Mountain the next, and then they became his favorite rides.

I will say that my 7 year old niece rode ToT with us only because her 3 year old cousin was planning to ride, and she didn't want to be little scaredy cat. She said she rode ToT when she was 5 and was too scared. However, when she rode last week, she decided she now likes it.

So, every kid is different.

We are having the same predicament right now. DD4.5 is dying to ride TOT, but we are still thinking she will freak out because I am not convinced she really understands what the ride is. She loves the drop in Splash and is not at all afraid of HM. Perhaps it's just us parentals that are scared?

If she wants to ride, I say let her ride. The anguish she'll feel from not being allowed to ride something she is tall enough for and wants to ride will be worse that whatever anguish she feels from being scared on the actual ride.
Of course, that's just one parenting philosophy. Your views and results may vary.

I hate that ride btw. Well not me, but my stomach, lol. Sadly I do believe that has something to do with me not taking her  She made me man up (woman up?) and do Splash, so I guess now it's time for me to man up and do TOT

In addition to the kid roller coasters, they've ridden the kid versions of the drop rides at other parks and loved them. They also both rode Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Great Movie Ride (the alien part still scares even ME)...and liked all of them. They were a bit nervous about the Haunted Mansion, but thought it was more funny than scary. The worst reaction I saw was the shark part from the Nemo Ride.

I would take my daughter if she was fine with all that.

It really depends on whether the 4 1/2 year old likes the Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain.
If she likes Splash but not Haunted, you could just tell her when to close and when not to close her eyes.
If she doesn't like Splash but likes Haunted, then, No.
Same for if she doesn't like either, NO, NO, NO.

You can exit the ride after the pre-show. If the pre-show is too intense, leave.

There is a difference between intense and scary. ToT has a lot of dark and spooky parts. The ride itself is mostly in the dark. Twilight Zone, as a show, was more creepy and intense than scary. Use the pre-show as a test. Make sure there is a willing adult who will leave with the child. "Whew! I'm glad you're leaving with me, kid! Let's go find some characters!"

DH doesn't like thrill rides so, I plan to take him and DS through the pre-show. DH will leave and DS can pick a parent. :)

I have a great photo of DH on ToT with our friend and their 5yr old daughter lets just say this photo is priceless...as my DH looks scared to death and 5yr is just smiling like she isn't even on a ride!!! I love the photo

Medically I can't do TOT but being as it's me and my daughter we do the preshow. I love the theming so it's worth just going for that. She has no interest in riding but likes watching the doors open outside and trying to see the people freak out. :D

I personally would skip it. My girls love roller coasters, but TOT is much more intense than a kiddie coaster. It is in the dark with a scary back story. The you drop unexpectedly multiple times with people screaming In a confined space. A few years ago, I took my then 5 year old, fearless DD on it. She got off shaking and said that she hated it. Last trip I took my other coaster-loving, 6 year old DD on it and she came off it and asked to take a break from thrill rides. Stick to the coasters if the child makes the height requirements. I would skip Dinosaur too. We had similar reactions.

Confession time... the first time I went on TOT (I was 8), I cried. It wasn't the ride part, but the theming.
But I am a little bit of a wimp... I still can't watch ghost movies without closing my eyes for half the film :p I think it 100% depends on the kid.
