My wife's favorite was an elephant
One night during the MNSSHP we got a giant towel roll of candy

My favorite one (and the only one I've ever taken home  ) was the cutest little mouse....whiskers, ears and all.
Like others have said, we've had years where there have been several and years where we received none. One year at the WL we got one every day. I guess it depends on your Mousekeeper.

I got a bunch of those little bird things, one bunny and one thing that we didn't know what it was...but it was cute. :)
Oh dear! I'm guilty of taking them home w/ me.:(
I usually get them when I leave a nice tip.:D I have gotten bunnies, butterflies, dogs/cats...
They do it in the value resorts mostly, or at least they used to.
Don't feel badly. It's a gift. Disney expects you to take it home. I don't know why people think you aren't permitted to take them, but it simply isn't the case. If Disney leaves you something extra, it's for you. :)

I've also received candy and postcards...one time out of over 200 trips...and I was probably still very lucky to get it, even so.

Towel animals aren't given out to most people. They are a bonus. Not everyone gets them. Nobody should feel slighted that they didn't get one. It's akin to buying a lottery ticket and feeling slighted because you didn't win. Not everyone gets lucky, that's all.

Boy, I'll say! That is awesome. How could you NOT take that one home? It would be tempting for sure.
Well and based on what we found earlier in the post, you CAN take them home... so, now I'm praying to get something equally as cool one day. LOL!

The only time we've gotten anything was when we left a not-so-subtle hint for Mousekeeping (i.e. a note with a tip that said "We love towel animals!).

Maybe this next trip I'll add the note to our resort reservation too and say "We love big bunny towel animals with dresses and ribbons." LOL!

So I have a friend working in Housekeeping currently and from what they have said it is up to each individual mousekeeper and not the norm. Most will do it when they are trying to earn a bigger tip (just warning leaving a big tip will not always guarantee you one the next cleaning because they already got your money they don't need to work for it). It simply boils down to who still cares about their job and wants to make it a little more fun and who is just there to clean their rooms as quickly as possible get paid for their whole shift and go sit somewhere and hang out until they get a call. People that will take their time and do towel animals know it is an investment because when they come to do something later or the next day their might be a bigger tip.

Also form my understanding some people have stopped doing it because they would do all the hard work for the towel animals and proper cleaning and then someone later in the week would end up with the tip even though they didn't do anything! This is because most mouskeepers only work 5 days a week so if you only leave the tip on the days they are off they don't get any fruits from their labor.
