But I just don't get why they would make WDW's building more like a building then Disneyland's shaped weird.

Why not make them the same?

The answer is....

1. Epcot Center. DHS' tower was designed so that it would blend in with the Morocco Pavilion. If you stand at the steps of Mexico and look over at Morocco, you can see the tower.

So they made the top of it match the Morocco buildings.

2. A third drop shaft. DHS' tower only has two shafts, DL has three, hence the wider body.

The towers at Disneyland Paris and Tokyo are both copies of the DL tower. Paris is nearly identical, but Tokyo scraps the southern California style in favor of a 1930s New York style.

It's also not themed to the Twilight Zone....it has its own story where the man who built it, Daniel Hightower, was a famous explorer who stole a cursed deity doll from an African tribe. And the doll got its revenge by dropping his elevator 13 floors to his death.

ToT at WDW is my favorite ride in the world. The DCA exterior looks semi-strange, but I'm SO glad they atleast made them look very different.

How didn't MK get Disneyland's Small World's facade or something close to it? o_O
At least a part of the answer has to do with location within the park. At DL it's a bit off by itself and not part of Fanrasyland like at WDW. WDW's Fanrasyland has a medieval tent them to compliment the castle and the DL Small World facade would look out of place thematically.

I agree with others, very glad they made them different, but DCA's looks a bit strange.

It looks more like a municipal office building rather than a luxury hotel. :P

Also...the DHS tower is the only one that isn't "backwards". The drop tower is right out front facing the park, whereas each other park has the drop tower actually behind the queue/load building.

Looking at ToT DL from my hotel room right now and I'm not sure if this is the correct answer but from the looks of it they couldn't have the queue and stuff behind like WDW because it would have gone onto the former parking lot (now Cars Land). That might be why it looks a bit odd?

It also has to do with the different ride systems and layout. Florida's tower has four load shafts and two drop shafts in front; DCA's Tower has three shafts that house the ride AND drop portion, so the building had to be wider.
