ToT line walk through...?

Ok, so the tower of terror is one of me and my wife’s favourite attractions anywhere and we go on as much as possible when we are in WDW!
Question is my mother who is coming with us next year couldn’t think of anything worse as she hates normal elevator rides, but is intrigued by the Pre show and the walk through so I’m trying to clarify if when me, the wife, 2 sons and father go on can she join the line and bail out before we enter the elevator!?
My understanding is that is possible but you still have to get in a standard elevator to exit which is also and issue as she takes stairs wherever possible! :)

If anyone knows if she can walk out that’d be great, thanks...

Guests may walk queues all they want and are not compelled to ride any attraction.........and as for mandatory elevator to exit on ToT I'm not sure as I have never bailed on that ride. But there should be an elevator to allow for ADA types but I'm not sure if ToT has both stairs and elevator for early/pre ride exiting. I would expect both stairs and elevator due to the prospects of emergency exiting whereby an elevator could be unsafe.

This ride opened in or near 1994 so it is not terribly old but I believe prior to the approx 1996 ADA standards.

Yes she can experience the entire pre-show with you. When you reach the point where you board the “service elevator” inform the CM you have a non-rider. She will be directed to a CM at a real elevator (which is very large and only goes one floor so it’s a quick ride). That elevator opens to the same area as the “service elevators” and she will walk to where the ride photos are displayed and can wait for you there (seating is available next to the wall.)

I did this once with a father and his young son who had changed his mind about riding at the last minute. The CM was great ~ he told the boy to tell his friends that he had ridden the REAL elevator at the Tower of Terror and that only very important people get to ride in it!

There is a short video on Youtube that shows someone taking the "Chicken exit" way out. You can see how quickly the ride is to meet up with the guests who do the entire ride.

Tell your mother the chicken exit comes after the cute kiddie dark ride you board in the boiler room!

Not sure she’d go for that one! She has said previously you would not strap her in there for $1Million and I think she was serious! She will hate being inside the normal elevator if needed!
Not sure she will even walk through as won’t believe me when I tell her she can bail out ;)
Splash mountain is a challenge for her!

Thanks, not sure she will believe me but we shall see!
I just think it’s a good thing to look at inside and see the video etc but not sure she feels the same! :)

My one daughter has used the "chicken exit" many times. I have one daughter that LOVES the ToT. It is one of her favorite rides. My other daughter flat out HATES it. When I was single, it was a dilemma as to what to do. Once my oldest (who hates the ride) was old enough to wait in the gift shop, she began to use the chicken exit. At first, a CM would get in the elevator with her, and leave her in the gift shop, and we would meet up. Then it changed, where because of possible harrassmnet charges (a CM being alone in an elevator with a child) I had to ride down with my daughter and the CM, then my daughter would get off the elevator, and I would ride back up and then my other daugher and I would ride the ride and then meet my oldest daughter. Clearly you will not have to escort your mother in law, but that is the process for kids.

As others have said, its a quick one floor ride in a regular elevator. I am sure there are stairs (in fact I think they are to the left as you face the ride elevators) but I dont know if they would let somone use them except in the case of an emergency.

The "service elevator" for non-riders is scarier than the "service elevator".

I did this last time because I didn't want to ride ToT after the pre-show. The CM walked me to the normal "service elevator" and you kinda freak because you are put in a REAL service elevator.

Service elevators...just scare me in general.
