ToT for wimps: Can I take it?

I was just planning in my head, if I were to go soon (which I might) which rides I should dare to try again and which ones I should steer away from. From my understanding, ToT is a big drop ride which personally isn't my favorite, but as a young kid it used to be the ride I always needed to go on at least 10 times. Now, when I went a few years ago I went on Slash Mountain and my first instinct on a drop for some reason is to buck by head inwards toward my body. I bucked my head in so hard on Splash that I had a shooting pain down my back and I couldn't stand up for a few seconds... It was honestly the freakiest thing ever. The thing is, I don't have any known health issues, so idk why this happened and if it was just some rare thing? Ever since I've been scared of thrill rides with big drops, and I know ToT is ALL drop... So my question is, how extreme is it? Do you think I would be able to handle it or will I be in pain by the time I get off the ride? I used to be able to ride it and absolutely love it, but now I'm unsure wether to ride it and if I'd enjoy it like I used to just because of that one scary experience on Splash. Any answer would be great :)

I love ToT for its atmosphere, its terrific storytelling, and the completely random and unpredictable drop sequence -- you never know when you're going to be shot upwards, jiggled around, or dropped ten stories. The best moments are when it changes direction at exactly the right moment to make everyone float upwards for just a few seconds in what feels like zero gravity. That said, of my friends that have ridden it, several have vowed to never ride again as they're utterly terrified of it -- and they're grown men. I think they're silly.

But now I'm going to have too before it gets the rumored update.
It's not changing or going away.

Some people just don't like that sensation of being dropped/zero gravity (I count myself amongst their numbers.)--it doesn't make them "silly."

If you think Splash mountain is terrifying, you probably won't be able to handle TOT. I think Splash is like winnie the pooh compared to TOT.

However, each of my children have eagerly anticipated the yearly trip to DIsney when they would have turned 3 so they could ride TOT. (for my children they all were finally tall enough to ride once 3). THey have rode it at a tiny little 3 years and loved it.

I do think TOT is probably the scariest ride at Disney.

I will definitely agree with this; it's scary not only because it's a drop ride, and a drop in the dark, but because it's completely unpredictable. Even if you've already ridden it, you have no idea what's going to happen once the doors shut and the elevator plummets. It's one reason why it's such a terrific ride: it never gets old. But it's definitely scary!

I actually think that Splash is scarier than TOT in many ways... I might be in the minority but I can't get over the fact that there are no restraints on Splash. I still ride Splash and count it as one of my favorite rides at WDW but I do think that it is just as scary as TOT for some people.

@mouse-eared-muffin give it a shot! You to have a good understanding of what causes the pain and how you can prepare for it on the day of. If you really want to ride TOT, go for it!

It has hefty, padded lap bars; did you mean no shoulder restraints?
Does Disneyland's version not have a lap bar? I was there last so I think I might have crossed the two in my mind. Sorry for the confusion! Either way, I find Splash to be a rush of a ride. Maybe not biggest thrill factor but it gets my heart rate up!
