Well, that year was a Box Office roller-coaster. Putting off a $3 Billion Domestic year by less than a Million is amazing. Plus getting a 26.4% market share.

The Worldwide numbers for 2016 won't be settled for a bit yet. Now is the waiting game to see if Disney manages the Top 5. It's fairly likely at this point if Rogue One continues on as expected; It's a minimal $85.8 Million behind the current #5 The Secret Life of Pets. It's more a matter of where it ends up in the list than anything else.

Rogue One will starting in China on January 6th.

Our current standings get Rogue One into the #5 spot with 914.4 million. However the estimated overseas numbers for the weekend are not fully in yet, particularly China. So there is a chance that it might pop to the #4 spot, once all the official results are counted.

It still may be a "slow" climb to the billion dollar mark depending on how it continues to do, but there's not any massive upcoming competition.

Rogue One is now #4 for the year and is 48 million behind #2 Finding Dory. It's very likely to close that gap within the next 2 weeks on the outside. And should be passing the 500 million domestic mark within the next day and the 1 billion world wide by as early as Friday once more foreign numbers come in.

The next big step is waiting to see if Rogue One can top Civil War at over 1.15 billion. Gaining 173+ million is a real task between now and Rogue One's eventual phasing out. The Force Awakens gained about 13.4% on it's 4 week domestic total before it left it's last theaters in ... wait for it ... in JUNE of 2016. An identical performance would top Rogue One out at about 550 million domestic. I put similar estimation for it's world wide box would be 1.08-1.05 billion.
