Toon Town cleaning

OK, we were at WDW from May 6- May 15th. Our youngest just turned 5. This was our 3rd trip since June '04...our youngest DD is hooked on Minnie's house. Our first day in Toon Town was great, we went early and had a great time. Our second visit in Toon Town wasnt as great. As a matter of fact Minnie's House was a total mess. How lazy can people be? (guests NOT cm's) there were soda cups, powerade bottles, pretzle wrapper papers & napkins left on Minnies furniture & in the corners of the rooms. When we got out of the house I went in to the Fair and immediately told the first CM I found, who then immediately got on a phone and then said that it would be taken care of. SO...now for my question...how often during the day do clean up crews go through the houses and around the area to make sure its clean?

this did not ruin our trip or make the kids cry. It was just something that I noticed and was curious about. My husband thought I was out of line to go complain to the first CM I saw.....what would you have done?

Firstly, I apologize to hear that your stay even for a minute was less than satisfactory.

I won't be one to criticize guests, but let's just say some can be less polite and hospitable as others.

Toon Town, as well as the rest of the Magic Kingdom, has a good cleaning, sprucing, and minor repairing when the park closes, before it opens, etc. How much can it be cleaned throughout the day is a whole other matter, because of how busy it is, and how many other circumstances cast members must deal with. However, basic sweeps and checks are done as frequently as possible, and any cast member who spots trash of any kind should be discarding it immediately.

It was not out of line whatsoever to tell that CM, for it is their job to assist the guest in anything the need, and it was great to give them a heads-up. Cast Members should always be there to address concerns or problems, and I hope the CM you went to solved the problem.

You weren't out of line. Disney's attention to detail and cleanliness is what has always set it apart from the competition.

Did you go back later to see if it got cleaned?

It seems like they havn't been taking care of Toon Town at all since its makover in 1995. There's paint peeling everywhere, and alot of damaged props. DL's toon town puts ours to shame.

Oh come on. 10 years? It would be a pile of rubble if they didn't touch it for 10 years.

To be honest, I would have done just what you did. I don't think you were out of line in any way to report the trash. They do a good job keeping the grounds and restrooms clean, but inside attractions (I do consider the houses to be attractions) they can't always get into them when the park is open due to the crowds. How else are they to know about the trash if no one informs them of the problem? That's how problems are solved, by making the employees/cms aware. Hopefully they quickly got some cms in there to clean it up, so as to make the area more presentable for the future guests of the day. Though it does sound like they did just that.

Wow.. you did a good job at reporting the trash... I know CMs are usualy good.. but the houses are hard to maintain 24/7.... their are periods and usually these periods are when the guests are not nice to the area come... By reporting it you helped clean the area..

(and make people remember they are paying to enjoy this park... and not to trash it.. Sure if you see one piece you think it is ok to add more... I dislike those people.. Even when i see them at Busch Gardens..)

Want to spot an off duty cast member? Look for the guest picking up any trash they find. Known as the Disney scoop, it is part of our traditions class.

Usually, all trash (i.e. bottles or papers) will be cleaned that day or overnight. Unfortunately, many of the toontown elements are touched by lots of children and get damaged over time. Minnie's Kitchen (sink and fridge) are prime examples. It usually takes them weeks to months to years these days - depending on the problem - to make something look as good as new.

Right now, some elements have been removed from Toontown and are being worked on (i.e. signs with faded paint). But overall, I think it's time to close several of the areas and go in and paint.

Sometimes it's clean and sometimes it's not in TT, but then again I always see people throwing their trash or little kids spilling their ice cream, etc and their parents not even picking it up. It's really a shame some guests have to litter like that. I don't even want to spit on Disney property!!! lol

You're right to complain - the laziness and disgusting habits of other guests should be highlighted to CMs - they are a potential hazard - youngsters picking up discarded rubbish will (if unchecked) naturally place items straight to their mouths

Well, thanks for the replys. I am glad to know I can tell my husband I was OK in telling the CM in the Fair. He did do a great job of getting someone in there to clean the place up. I always seem to see people cleaning restrooms & trashbins. I think TT could use some sprucing up. Minnie's house takes alot of abuse I am sure, what with all the little gadgets to touch and play with esp. in the kitchen.

I have also noticed TT is in pretty rough shape as far as clean ups and painting and just in general. I know the hands-on nature of this area is part of the problem but it does seem excessive.

I am not a CM and I do that too....in fact, since Iam in a wheelchair I am going to get my very own 'pickle picker' so I can pick up trash as I ride!

Yeah I'm no CM but I found myself a week ago picking up trash as I walked around. My son even took some cig butts from a garden in EPCOT by the smoking area and threw them in the ashtray. Yes I stopped him and made him wash his hands real well.

As for Minnies house, I didn't notice any trash. But what I DID notice were the dead bugs at the bottom of one of her glass enclosed display shelves. I think it was the one with various collectable plates. THAT was bad show because I'm sure they didn't appear all of a sudden. It was a buildup over time. I called it "Minnies bug collection" and got a laugh from other guests I didn't even know.

It does seem that some people get that, " Hey I paid to get in here, I can do whatever I want attitude" that is one of my personal pet peeves, when others are disrespectful and lazy ! I often wonder what their house or car looks like?? Reporting it was the best thing to do, hopefully someone who does this saw you care enough to report it and will think twice next time, doubtful, but maybe! At any rate, your kids saw and that was a great lesson for them to see. Kudos to you !!
