Too late for my mother in law to get refund?

I have been having doubts about going to Disney for a couple of months-my wife failed to mention them to anyone. It has to do with lack of available time off. My son and my wife were both sick multiple times, and I burned through most of my days off during the first 3rd of the year. I won't have any room for error in terms of days off for the remainder of the year which panics me. If it was just me I had to worry about, I would suck it up and stay at work if I was sick, but if my wife or son gets sick that is out of my control. The other thing is flying...deathly afraid to fly. Never have done it before.

We are scheduled to check in on Saturday. Is there any chance she could get a refund for me at this time?

Have you spoken to your doctor about your anxiety for flying? I am not a fan of flying but can with medication get through the 2 hour flight from St. Louis to Orlando. Where are flying from? How long will the flight be? What worries you most about the flight? For me it is confined spaces.

It sounds like its been a rough year this year. I don't know how old your son is or if your wife works. Will this be the first family trip to WDW? It would be a real shame to miss out on this experience if there were some way to get you there safe and sound. My girls would not have as much fun at WDW without daddy there to share the fun. We have checked in a day before and stayed a day after because of his work schedule...and I will say those added days for us..we had fun...but it wasn't the same without him.

If there is ANY way you can make this work for your family I would do that. Good luck...keep us posted.

I think if you are staying on property at disney you can be refunded on a room only reservation up to 48 hours prior. If you booked a package you might be out of luck. Also if you have your plane fare already you might as well just go.

first and foremost, if you truly can't take the time off, then you can't. period. end of discussion.

if your MIL has a package deal onsite at disney, it is too late to get a refund for any member. the entire package would have to be cancelled and a new one made and paid for. but you would not get a refund. and you would lose any discounts you had.

if your MIL has a room only onsite at disney, you have 72 hours to cancel, if you were a third adult in the room, you only cost about $25 per day, but again, it may require cancelling and rebooking -THIS IS A QUESTION FOR MASTER YODA. still working on the room only idea, if your ticket has been purchased, someone can use it some other time. just remove it from the website if you registered it and someone else can claim it someday- but you are burning that money until someone else uses it. dining reservations that you do not go to may choose to charge the $10 no show fee for you, and for prepaid meals, most have a 72 hour cancellation or you lose the money.

HOWEVER

I, as a fear of flying person, suspect your fear is what is really pushing you over the edge on an otherwise not so dire situation. I always get panicy a few days before i actually go.
i did not fly for over 20 years because of this fear. my family would fly down and i would take the train and meet them. until I accepted the fact that if i really believed that plane was going to crash, i would not be putting my daughter on it. so deep down, i believed it was safe. i was just afraid to be on that plane!

so i decided to try the heavily drugged route. alcohol was not enough and it gave me a headache. so now i take a relatively large dose, and I mean large dose, of xanax and get on that plane and go. i take enough that i once told my daughter i thought it was strange that they don't do the safety talks before the flights anymore. she pointed out that i am unconscious by that point, they still do them.
not a bad way to fly.
see your doctor, get a presciption and go with a family that wants to share their joy with you.

Actually Disney's room only reservation policy is up to 5 days prior to your arrival date is the last day you may cancel with a full refund. Other than that, you would lose your deposit amount. Packages are 45 days prior to your arrival date.

As far as the ticket, theme park tickets are non-transferrable so if you have registered the ticket, only you can use that ticket. If the ticket is part of a package, that goes along with the whole package. I am thinking would you consider moving your trip intio the following year? There would be a change fee, but it would be better than the cancellation fee. And that way you wouldnt be so uncomfortable about taking time that you might need for a family emergency. I hope this information is helpful!!! Marie

Ah you may be correct about the 5 days. I have made changes as late as 3 days prior to room only reservation with no penalty but I have never outright cancelled, just changes.

Disney does NOT hold the package deadline of 45 days out, trust me, I know firsthand. I'm not sure exactly how close you can get it but we had to cancel less than 30 days out in 2010 and they didn't even hold any of the package deposit.

And to the OP, what exactly is the fear you have of flying? I have a fear of heights but I love flying.
