It was a BOMB THREAT!! I saw it on the Internet, so it must be true!!! So glad everyone is safe! Wow, that was close!

(Just teasing Dave. A girl has to have some fun! ;))
Actually, WDWMagic.com has higher standards than the media.
So does Dave, which is why we trust him more. :)

Whenever I see the dogs, I wonder just what they're sniffing out...a person? Drugs? Bombs? I never really care, though. I just wonder and go on with my day. :)

Disney has a cadre of bomb dogs. They sweep transportation every few hours - theyre just very good about being discrete. They're always discretely doing things. Their presence - which is very common - is not indicative of anything.

The ones I see usually look like Rin Tin Tin. I usually see them around the entrance to the MK, as I'm walking down the...whatever that thing is called when you get off the monorail. I think, "There are those dogs again. I wonder what they're sniffing for."

Never cared enough to ask anyone who might know. And now you've solve the puzzle. Next time, I'll think, "There are those dogs again. Now, what did Dave say they were doing?" ;)

Thanks! :)

Theyre just being vigilant. Theyre just sweeping the area. Its entirely normal.

And thats great, but personally in situations like this I'm okay with unverified reports from twitter and social media. Maybe thats just me being impatient.

Cheers.
I have no issues with reporting on social media, but someone declaring a "bomb threat" on Twitter when he's not even in the park doesn't really help anything but his number of followers....

I have dealt with situations like this in my past a couple times, and the protocol involved suggests suspicious package which should never be called a bomb unless you knew absolutely for certain it was a bomb, but since I personally was no expert in that field of identifying bombs, I would have called it a suspicious package.

Usually turns out to be nothing but Disney has to do their due diligence.

Jimmy Thick- Glad it worked out safe.

Clearly you missed that I work as a journalist. There's a bunch on here actually.

I'd post a witty response to this but you'd probably just send me another profanity laced pm like you did the last time we didn't agree.

To everyone:

And what's the difference with someone posting here that it was a possible bomb scare? Are you getting your source material from this website? And I don't see why a "stampede" would occur because of a possible bomb in Tommorowland, it's not like someone planted a nuclear device. You guys do know that IEDs and other homemade bombs aren't like what you see on tv? It's not like a grenade has a 100 yard kill radius.

And just to point out, this is the WDW Parks News, RUMORS, and Current Events forum. Notice I put RUMORS in bold? Yeah, rumors would suggest that what the person states is not 100% backed up by a reliable source.

Please dont repeat the same unconfirmed and unsubstantiated BS that people are throwing out there.

Describing this as a "bomb scare" or "bomb threat" is unprofessional, sensational and completely unnecessary without hard, quotable information to back that with.
A scare is just that...they treat things as if it COULD be dangerous or someone said the "B" word and people were scared....a "threat" is totally different.

There are too many crazies out there for all of us not to err on the side of caution. (unless you ARE in the media, then you SHOULD choose your words wisely)

Not that this has anything to do with this incident, but one time at the MK, they closed off the line to Peter Pan and sent people in the FP line. I then observed a deputy sherif with his dog sniffing a back pack near the entrance to the regular queue. I then observed the deputy open said back pack and pull out what looked to be a jar of baby food.

I only mention this here as it would appear from my experience (some three to five years ago) that Disney has different protocols (or they have changed) depending on how they view the threat....I just recall feeling surprised that they only kept people a few feet away from the area where someone left a back pack.

From my time in commercial aviation the German Shepherds are generally explosive dogs, The Shepherds seem to be able to resist the scent of food better because the stakes are a lot higher in explosive detection.

Drug dogs can be almost any breed but the majority of them that I have personally seen have been Labradors.

Perhaps we have a handler on the board who can tell us more, as I was a HQ puke in the airline industry so in effect JAFO.

From the sounds of it, what happened last night went way above just a normal suspicious package, and the treatment of the situation sounds to me like they had a strong inclination that this something could possibly cause harm (whether an explosive, chemical release, or something else). To evacuate and block off an entire land in the park is rather drastic, so that suggests a lot more than just your average unattended item.

So those occasional assistance dogs may not be what they seem ?

What a bomb can actually do is totally irrelevant, panic is caused by what people think could happen, not by what is actually likely to happen.

With that said, I don't have a problem with what was reported on this thread. Whenever there are "incidents" at the parks people always post what they are seeing on social and and other media sites so we can use all the information to try to piece together what is happening. As long as people are specifying sources I don't have a problem with this.

Yes, I know that. Point being that I'm sure that anyone there already knew that something was up when a whole section of the park is closed off. I highly doubt that almost ANYONE that was at the park was scanning this website for information.
