Tomorrowland new entrance

I guess I'm just confused. How hard is it to plant a few flowers? Doesn't Disneyland's horticulture department pride themselves on being able to craft beautiful planters? Why couldn't they throw a flowers in there, then further improve it into the 'finished' look in spring?

Why is it acceptable to debut an unfinished planter after weeks and weeks of construction there? I mean c'mon. This isn't Rise of the Resistance.

I'm not sure I like this trend of Disney debuting a half finished project, then slowly adding to it over months. Especially for stuff as simple as a sign or planter.

I'll echo what many others have already said.... This is just bad show. It's lazy and reminiscent of Six Flags. Part of Disneyland's charm is (was?) in its attention to detailed landscaping.

And, c'mon, It really is NOT hard to throw in some shrubs. It's Southern California. Everything grows there! You can even plant potted plants in the ground so they are temporary (if the goal is to finish landscaping later). The park is decorated for Christmas already, popping in some poinsettias would be a no-brainer. This really just emphasizes how much the higher ups really just don't "get it" (or don't care or both).

On the positive side, I appreciate the effort to remove the rocks. I like the open space of the Tomorrowland entrance.

Final note: I suspect that this is an unfinished project and frankly, I'm really getting tired of the "they aren't done" moments. Finish the job and present your best effort for the guests paying hundreds of dollars to visit. If you can't manage your projects in a way to present your guests with a finshed project, something is seriously systemically wrong with how the park is being run.

Maybe it's supposed to be that way. The hub at WDW MK has this awful AstroTurf look.

Yeah but that installation is elaborately detailed and functional. This is "nice" but looks like the White House lawn. In other words it's perfectly fine but boring, especially for what's supposed to be the welcome mat to the future.

I honestly think that the lawn is temporary while they finish the Orbitor mechanical shack. Since they are still doing construction why risk messing up a nice planter and having to replant flowers and shrubs if they do get accidentally tore up during construction?

Just wait and plant the planters once after the construction is done and just put a temporary lawn to at least make it somewhat nice in the meantime. If it's completely finished and it's still a lawn, then complain.....but at least let them finish.

That's what I thought about the Dumbo fence. 😒

They might have needed to take the walls down for the premiere of the Christmas parade, since that's a prime parade viewing area. They might have a different concept in mind than just the lawn(though I like the clean lawn look personally), but I would be surprised if they didnt take the opportunity to put some drought tolerant landscaping to reduce water use (those fruit trees used a lot of water).

Just a friendly reminder that if the bar for every little project was “it’s fine” we wouldn’t have Disneyland nor would we be on this forum obsessing about the place everyday.

Yeah, but if the bar for every project was "perfection" a lot of projects would have never been started, including Disneyland. The park opened with a lack of well landscaped areas and big open patches of grass (you know... Like a park) was the norm.

It's fine, if it's not final. If indeed temporary, I see not need to complain...other than Disney fans needing something to complain about always.

If it’s temporary, I’m ok with it but why can’t they just finish something before it’s unveiled? Why is seemingly every small project these days done piecemeal?
Given the holiday season, it's very likely they are trying not to have any additional impact to crowd flow. I guess they could do it overnight like other projects.

another thing that really confuses me is the lack of communication between the people that work the area and the people that plan these changes.

So they opened up the area and created a wide entrance to the land then park ops goes in and adds stanchions with protruding bases that can easily trip someone that gets to close to them.

Why not drill the holes for the stanchions before opening up the walkways to guests? Better yet why not design a narrow planter just wide enough to create a nice natural barrier that does not create an obstacle. Would be better than more of those unsitely stanchions with ropes. The planter could have been no more than a foot and a half wide which is the width of one of those grass strips or better yet plant a nice green barrier that can be kept trim to waist height.
