Tommorrowland Speedway Fix

Have an idea for the speedway.

Why not update it to a Cars theme.

It would take little effort to cast fiberglass cars to fit onto the chassis that are there. Probably could change them in 1-2 days once made. Could even put speakers in the cars to talk to the driver - I would love to ride in Ramone with Cheech Marin giving me driving instructions!

Redo the landscape to include a large Mater in the middle with Larry giving advice to encourage the young drivers. Certainly other characters could be placed as well.

Place a billboard near the end with Sheriff behind it telling the kids to slow down.

Theme the que with route 66 art deco, sort of is already.

I would think the actual refit could be down quite quickly, making the ride much more current and giving it a reason to be in the park.

Just a thought!

Interesting idea.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of love for the Speedway around here. A lot of people find that it is a waste of valuable space that could be better utilized for a more contemporary attraction or two. Not to mention being noisy and smelly.

Since the addition of Pixar Place to Hollywood Studios, I stand against any Pixar addition/refurb not in that area of DHS. I have no problem with PP annexing the Backlot Tour if need be. Radiator Springs Racers in Pixar Place? No problem. Cars in Tomorrowland? Yes problem. Doesn't fit the theme of the future (not that the current version does), and Tomorrowland has enough of an identity crisis as is.

If you told me that a Cars theme is the only way to change the Speedway, I'm all for it. The current Speedway doesn't fit Tomorrowland either, and it smells terrible. Ultimately, I'd rather see something new in that massive space.

Sorry. Didn't realize this had been discussed.

I agree that the speedway just doesn't fit in a theme of TL (or FL).

If you have ever played RCT, speedways are cheap to make, draw a crowd and fill a space. I know that RCT is just a game but the model seems to work pretty well. I suspect that is why WDW started with it. It just needs something!

I loved the Speedway. Its something from the past that we don't have much of left!! Everything is being taken out and/or updated. Its nice to see something fairly original left, even though the track has been changed TOO many times. Its more of a nostalgia thing than anything else. Just like Carousel of Progress. A lot of people hate it and think its a snooze, but the history behind it is amazing. Taken from the 1964 Worlds Fair, then moved to DL and then to WDW with only a minor update is amazing. Its the ONLY attraction we have that Walt personally worked on as it was moved from DL. Its legacy alone is why its kept. I like the older attractions. They were different and pionnering. These new ones look awesome, but growing up, I was always more interested in the old classics then the more modern ones. My favorites were always the older ones. I must admit though that Toy Story when it came out I was 5 and I loved it haha. Lion King was also awesome for its time. Carsland replacing the Speedway would be cool, but it wouldn't fit in with the theme. Like they say, if its not broken, don't fix it. Also you have to see its from a kids standpoint. Where else can they "drive". For kids its their dream come true to finally "drive" a car. They have no idea its being guided underneath :ROFLOL:

I have a great idea for a Speedway fix...BULLDOZER!

The thing is old and boring and smelly and loud and so un-Disney in comparison to all of the other great attractions in the parks. I walk by the thing and feel like I'm at Six Flags!

There is just way too much prime real estate sitting beneath the track of the Speedway...just think of the number of dark rides/E-tickets that could be built in that plot of land! Also, there could be a much better transition between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland if planned out correctly.

I've never been on the Speedway, but I really like the Autopia in Disneyland. There are lots of different paths that your car can take. There's lots of scenery, such as Car Park and there's an off-road section too. Once you get used to the pedals, it's a lot like the TTA. Just a nice way to relax and enjoy the area.

I disagree that Cars should be put in there. The Speedway/Autopia isn't very future or sci-fi -____ like the rest of Tomorrowland, but Cars won't help things. If it gets re-done, they could make the cars look very futuristic, maybe flying, and change the gas to something more Earth friendly. Just my 2-cents.
