Have you visited Tom Sawyer's Island in the past 5 years? What do you think Disney should do with this area of the Magic Kingdom? Keep it as is? Revamp the area?

I think it is great. When I was about 6 or 7 I loved it. Now that was the Disneyland one which I think is better than the MK one. Plus at Disneyland the pirate ship would come around and "shoot" cannons at the fort so I would start shooting at the people on the pirate ship, which was fun for a 6 year old.

Actually, I have never been on Tom Sawyer Island. During my last visit I wanted to go there, but I just never got around to going to the Island. It seems a bit interesting by reading about it in the books. Hopefully next time I'll actually go there.

I think they should do something else with it, It is pretty boring.

I think I would put an outdoor theater showing disney movies, but have the trees positioned to where you couldn't see it unless you were actually on the island. Kinda with a festival type theme, all outside, so you could just sit on the grass and watch the movie, kids could run around ( I know Rain, but it could be closed during rain) have hot dog, caramel apple, popcorn, cotton candy, lemonade, turkey leg, and ice-cream vendors all over. Tons, and Tons of balloons......... very fun and relaxing, a good place to take a break . I think that would be cool.

There are so many possible things........ it would be fun to hear everyone else's idea of what to do.

:p

I love Tom Sawyer Island as is...it's my hide out from all the comotion. I'll get to Magic Kingdom early in the day, do all of Tomorrowland and by 11:30 or so head over to the island to get a sandwich at Aunt Pollie's(opens at 12), sit under the gazeebo/dock area and relax.

Tom Sawyer Island, cont.

Well, the poll seems to indicate there are more people who *like* Tom Sawyer Island than those who don't; so my mind's made up to make a stop there later this month.

Next question -- how do you get to the Island? My best recollection is that a walkway or queue area exists between BTM and SM. Is that correct? Do you need to take a boat across? (Not the Liberty Belle which cruises around the island.) Thanks!

You have to take a keel boat from Frontierland to get to the island. The boat dock is close to the bridges.

I'd like to see it made into a "JUNGLE BOOK" themed Island instead.

We always laughed that Tom Sawyer belongs in Mark Twain Magic Kingdom - not Disney's! HAHA!

My favorite thing to do there is go in the caves and make scary monster sounds to scare all the little kids back to the mainland.......but that's just me.......:p

My kids like it alright. My DS 9 & DD 11 have to stop on each trip. It a little tame for my standards but a nice change of pace. To cover the whole island I would allow about an hour. The tunnels are kind of neat. A good place when it's hot and humid. The fort needs some rehab in my opinion. The walkway along the river gives you some different views of other attractions you might not normally see. We like sitting in the rocking chairs and watching BTMR. I say give it a walk and see for yourself!!;)

I never go to TSI - don't know why - there's just never enough time... I'd like to go and see it, but we're always rushing to get someplace else... We're not very spontaneous...

It is a MUST with children. When my kids were toddlers, I read that they expend more energy standing still (as they must in a queue) than running around.

In yet another of those contrary-to-logic issues with children, 30 minutes of running around gives them more stamina for subsequent standing and sitting still. But I have to admit that when you've spent the time and $ to go to WDW, it is a little frustrating that your kid's favorite thing to do is climb on a rock (we got rocks in Kansas, for heaven's sake!!) at Tom Sawyer's Island, when you are soooo agonizingly close to Big Thunder and Splash.

Although I must admit that last trip they were 8 & 14 and we skipped. This was due more to the rain than lack of interest, however.

The Keel Boats are no longer operating, their que is now the HM Fast Pass Pick-Up. Now you have to take a raft to Tom Saywer Island. They are located next to the river near the Fast Pass for Big Thunder Mountain RR. :)

You've always had to take the rafts. At least I've always taken the rafts. I remember the keel boats being a ride around the river in just that a keel boat...a Mike Fink Keel boat I think right? I remember seeing the Keel Boats and Mike Fink or whoever in a Davy Crocket movie. :D

TSI

So I need to take the raft over -- sounds good. (From what I can recall the Mike Fink keelboats have been shut down for a few years now.)

I, too, have never had *enough* time to visit so I thought I should before it changes to something else. It seems everyone I've asked this question to has visited Tom Sawyer Island a long, long time ago but never in the past few years. Why is that?

Is it possible this is the least visited MK attraction? If not, what is? The Frontierland Shootin' Arcade? Donald's Boat in Toontown? Hmmm. . .

If it is it's because it is so under rated.

Some seem to think it's only something to do if ya have kids with ya but I think quite the contrary. It's the most relaxing place in the park.

Oops. I don't know why I called the raft the keel boats. I know better than that. :brick: :brick:

I really like the feel and theming of TSI, but never seem to have time to go there. Just relized I hadn't been there in 10 years! I guess I would probably make it a bigger priority if I was traveling with kids, but since I don't it seems the closest I get to the Island is on the River Boat.

How about the option of Yes, and I don't like it. The way your poll reads is that yes, you've been and like it. If I answer your question no, then it indicates I've never been. But I'll vote NO although I have been and don't like it. Make sense?
