Tom Sawyer and paint brushes?

They were as of May, 2009. DH & I went hunting! The one thing that changed is the prize that you get for finding one. In 2006, my sister in law got a really cute certificate that was on hard paper. It was a fast pass good for either Big Thunder Mountain Railroad or Splash Mountain. I wanted to keep it & scrapbook it, but she opted to use it. :)

This past year, we were given the generic fast pass form that they give you if a ride breaks down, or something like that. It's really thin, and you can use it on any ride in the park. Maybe it changed back since last May. I kind of prefer the old ones, even if they were only good for 2 rides.

What's really interesting is that the above pass says "valid today only", but it's not dated. :hammer:

I received one of those a few years back, and on the reverse side they note the date and number of people in your party. No loophole, sorry. :) I couldn't bear to use it, so I still have it tucked away somewhere.

Yep, ours had the date & number of people on the back as well. I was so bummed I hadn't been the one in our party to find it, because I wouldn't have been able to use it either. :)

Yes, the paintbrushes are still hidden. Not too many of them are left since people steal them or throw them in the water (yes, it happens). They do get replaced, but it's not a quick turnaround. There are still some left and they are usually out.

You get FastPasses for your party to either Thunder or Splash. The cards were discontinued due to the fact that they are easy to duplicate.

Yeah i would not use it either. I would put it in the scrapbook for sure.

They hide brightly colored paintbrushes on Tom Sawyer's Island in the morning. If you find one, you return it to a CM for a free fastpass. It's done daily.

We searched in April 09...nothing! We asked CM on the island and were told they weren't doing it anymore (either she didn't know...or meant not anymore that day)! But...we did find other buried "treasure" of the plastic gem variety hidden on TSI! There was even a treasure map showing us where to find it! My kids had a blast searching...now each time we visit they want to go hunting for treasure!

Good to hear they still do it...searched in vain last February but CM told us he wasn't sure if they still do it? But chances will be slim as there is no way we can enter park and go straight there...always hit BTM and SM over and over til lines pick up... :sohappy:...usually save TSI for downtime when Frontierland gets hectic later on.....did get escorted once during YOMD to the front of BTM and got to sit in last car, my favorite, and will never forget the fun in that...:animwink:.

Think if I did get a certificate I too would have hard time parting with it...:D

When I searched in July of 08 on my honeymoon, the CM told me they weren't doing it anymore too because there were only 2 paintbrushes left. We were not going to search last May, but friends of ours said they had found one a week earlier. So I think sometimes when they all disappear, or there are only a couple, they don't hide them. I agree that the turnaround of getting more paintbrushes doesn't seem to be quick.

When we hunted in 06, there were 6 hidden. When we hunted in 09, there were 5 hidden. It just depends on how many have gotten stolen, and how many have gotten replaced. Ask your river raft captain on the way over if any are hidden, rather than wasting time looking for them if they haven't been hidden that day.

It kind of depends on how many they have left. I have heard of as many as ten and as few as two. The couple of times that we found them there appeared to be around 4 or 5.
Richard, what year did this start? the earliest i have on this thread on record is 2006. It is fastpass related as of today, but if/when it was around before the fastpass (1999), what was rewarded then?
