Today's news, new Muppet Show Might Return to ABC

I was about 6 when he died, and I remember my mom crying when she found out. I come from a family of Muppet fans.

My dad bought one of the first home VCRs back in the 1970s when they came out - $1500 for a VCR that would just tape one show. You could set the channel but you had to remember to turn the thing on to tape. And he would tape the news to watch after because the Muppet show came on the same time. Now THAT'S a Muppet fan.

That would be sacrilege. And they couldn't call it Muppets. A CGI Kermit or Fozzie or Gonzo would not be the same....

My dad also says that they had kids so my mom would have an excuse to watch Sesame Street (my sister is pre-Muppet Show), but he might be joking about that.

I grew up out in the country, and couldn't get cable.. so HBO wasn't an option.. but we loved The Dark Crystal!

I dunno know. I'm pre just about every kid show other than those from *ahem* the days of 3 channels and they went off the air at midnight. And everything was in black and white.

My daughter was early years of Sesame Street and I must admit I watched more than she did. Coooookies!

Didn't know the first couple of seasons were on DVD. Umm, I haven't bought anything on Amazon in the last 12 hours.....

It Did happend...During the short lived Jim Henson's Little Muppet Monsters they had Pigs in space & Kermit the Frog Private eye as animated shows..And most of the voices were the Muppet Babies voice actors.

I'm surprised You Know Who hasn't shown up yet to say how awful this will be if true, and how the Muppets are over the hill, and why don't they just rip Muppet Vision 3D out of DHS already, along with Star Wars while they're at it?

Now, why would I be upset? I am a bit surprised, since the last movie um, underperformed...but after all, Disney bought the things, so it's got to try to do SOMETHING with them, I suppose. With more movies unlikely, TV is their last alternative, and probably their last chance to prove they have any viability as a franchise.

And given that ABC is also bringing back Full House...freaking Full House...maybe a Muppet TV revival is not so surprising after all. The network must be desperate.

As for the parks...Disneyland kicked the Muppets out in favor of Frozen, and the location is getting much more traffic than it ever did under its previous venue, by all accounts. The Muppet movies didn't save that attraction. So let's just see what happens...

Oh, pardon me, I shouldn't have assumed, I wasn't aware that you stalk anyone else.

True enough, though, about Full House returning on Netflix, not ABC - my mistake. There seems to be an epidemic of zombie TV shows being revived - Coach, also an ABC show, it being revived by NBC, and Fox is bringing back that ditzy spook show The X-Files. So is network television that bad now, that it's compelled to body-snatch from television graveyards in order to lure in viewers?

Spin-offs are one thing.. but the Muppet show needs to be real live puppets. Not CGI.. not cartoon..

This news excites me so much. It seems likely that it would totally happen at this point.

Actually, the movie is the reason why they are heading back to TV, and television is really where they belong. Muppets roots originate from TV. I think the franchise will be focusing on TV for the next few years if this show works, and once they can get families familiarized with the characters again, more Muppet movies will bring in more revenue.
