I know a Guy whos Dr. used to write him ANYTING he wanted on his letterhead and he would get a note before his Trips to Wdw and walk around getting drunk all day and skip all the lines.....The Dr. wont do it any more . He got caught writing too many Disability scripts for one of the big companies up here and was in a bit of a legal jam for awhile....not sure how that turned out ! Totally crooked b.s.!!

There are very few medical cases that would warrant somebody not being able to wait in a queue line. If such a disability is severe enough, I think GAC should require a doctor's note stating what the disability is. Most queues and attractions at WDW (not necessarily DL) are handicap accessible and meet ADA guidelines. GAC should only be issued for disabilities that fall outside of what Disney has already accommodated for in ADA.
Yes! yes! Yes! Amen to that!:D:D:D

@bethymouse- You got it! It's the principle, not the fact that a few people are cutting in line. It's a fact that there is a major entitlement attitude with some people these days, and they have no qualms taking advantage of these "systems" if they're available. I won't even go down that rabbit hole any further...

Disney reacts if there's enough bad press. Look at the quick fix for the "Moldy Maelstrom." I would not be surprised one bit if the hammer came down and GAC changed, at least a little - with all the attention this is receiving.

When Nbc does an Undercover investigative report on a system failure and, a Major N.y. newspaper does a Cover story on this Its about as big an incentive to make changes as you'll ever get!!

Shame on them if they dont make changes ...quickly!!

...Or Disney could just create really cool queues that people will WANT to experience.
True, but it seems like now man, woman, child needs to be entertained all the time these days. No one can just stand in line and enjoy the fact they are at Disney. I was at WDW recently and I just amazed at how many people had there head down and texting in line and walking. Once I stood still while I watched some guy in Adventureland almost ploy me down because he was not looking at where he was going. Looked like he was texting. Not until I yelled hey... did his head come up. When I was on BTMR, my first since que upgrade, I was enjoying looking at what was added. Then I looked around and saw many people just texting away not looking at there surroundings. I don't think WDW can do anything to there ques that will keep peoples interest. TOO mant ADD people out there.............

They should...but for some reason they have a conflict because they have allowed others to run businesses out of the resort for so long

I don't think there's a conflict at all. Disney can decide who is does and doesn't want to allow to do business on its property. There are limitations upon that, of course, but Disney isn't required to let one company do business on its property just because it's previously allowed other companies to do so. There isn't even a requirement that they be fair about it or have a reason for allowing one and not the other, so long as it's not based upon race, gender, etc.

I like the headshot idea. Their whole family could be photographed too. I mean how many "relatives" can one person have? Too many people abuse the system they way it is set up now, something has to change.

Its a pretty simple solution actually. Make the person with the GAC take a headshot picture when registering. If the same headshot keeps popping up, it would be REALLY easy to figure out he or she doesn't have 93843 relatives visiting disney all year.

An issue I have is that I have traveled with people who have needed a GAC card but neither one is a relative. One person has systemic lupus and tires quickly to the point of being physically ill for the next few days if she pushes herself too hard. The other person was recovering from cancer treatment and his legs were a bit wobbly and he had difficulty in standing/walking for long periods. Neither of these people are related to me, but we traveled together. The trips were for us to get away from home and enjoy the vacation. I had no problem with them getting a GAC as I knew their enjoyment of the parks hinged on being given some accommodations. When we could, we waited on lines, but when they felt they could not stand for an hour to get on Splash for instance, they would use the GAC card. It would have been awkward if I waited on the line while they rode.

Now, some people will say that the GAC card should not be used as a head of the line pass, and the group should be given a fast pass type return ticket that is equal to the wait the line currently is, or be given accommodations of a rest/shade/AC area. I have zero problem with that, as it would make my friends comfortable and allow them to enjoy the park without pushing them past their endurance.

Everything you say is true. Problem is that it will get messy when it hits the fan, if for no other reason than internal politics-ie sheltering certain bloggers.

Sure could smell like ADA discrimination going after the disabled tour guide, not others.

Nice to see NBC picked up on this.
