I hope the canoes and the cast members return April 2017. What happens in the meantime?
If you have enough years of service you get put somewhere else like 5 years? If less than 5 years,
then unemployment?
Also, did not know they ran the goats. Would have done that in December if I had known.

Canoe CMs are Critter Country and Frontierland CMs, so they're cross-trained for other attractions. Each land is paired with another, with an exception to Tomorrowland and Main Street, so if one is hired for Fantasyland attractions, they will eventually learn Toontown. Same goes for Adventureland and New Orleans Square.

The Running of the Goats is one of the "attractions" Disneyland doesn't advertise, like Musical Chair on Main Street. Really only the die-hard Disneyland fans, such as a few of us on this forum, know about those kinds of things.

Known or unknown, I guess it's just whatever floats your goat...

Musical chairs on Main Street? Huh? Tell me more!

Did I read somewhere here that you used to work at Disneyland?

I don't think one should cancel an entire California trip due to some attractions being down at Disneyland.

I know there is waaaay more to California then just DLR and I alone would be fine with skipping DLR if we lived closer. Being a family of 5 from the east coast, it is not exactly a cheap little getaway, so I don't know when we would be able to return and not including DLR in a trip to CA might just cancel the whole thing.
The Railroad is a big deal for us as we ALWAYS ride the WDWRR each day at MK. We do at least a full loop and often more based on where we get on(often at Splash Mtn.). Also we always ride the Steamboat wand would have done that(maybe not both steamboat and Columbia). Fantasmic being down is another biggie too(as it is a family favorite too and we wanted to compare the versions. Canoes looked like a fun attraction and Im sure we would've had some fun on that. Our 10yo loves driving the cars so will be upset at Autopia being down(if it is scheduled for Aug). Would have liked to see Alladin, but I suppose a change is warranted as it has been there so long.(wish WDW would change there shows more regularly...every 5 years or so) So... we will see what will happen to our vacation... I def. do not want to head to WDW for a few years.

I completely understand. If you change your mind, just in case, check out our "Explore Southern California" thread for some tips on sites to see:

If you always do those things then maybe experiencing some of DLR's more unique attractions while those attractions are closed might make for a more entertaining vacation.

I'm a little surprised they aren't keeping the railroad open, but just shuttling back and forth between the NOS station and Tomorrowland (stopping at Main St in between). Haven't they done that before when working on a portion of the track?

I cannot speak for Disneyland, but I know Magic Kingdom in Orlando did move back and forth between two stations while Splash Mountain was under construction.

So if the Mark Twain and the Columbia are both docked for meet and greets now, does that mean the water stays in the front half of the river?
