Disneyland Resort has a lot of stuff closing today, Sunday, January 10th, 2016. Some of this stuff will only be closed for a few months, some will be closed for one to two years, and some of this stuff will be closed permanently. Here's the list:

Disneyland
Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo (Permanent)
Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue (Permanent)
Disneyland Railroad (Rumored 18 to 24 Months)
Fantasmic! (Rumored at least 18 Months)
Mark Twain Riverboat (Rumored at least 15 Months)
Sailing Ship Columbia (Rumored at least 15 Months)
Davy Crockett Canoes (Rumored at least 15 Months)
Tom Sawyer Island (Rumored at least 15 Months)
Jungle Cruise (Six Months for Dock Work)
Autopia (Four Months for new Honda sponsorship)
Haunted Mansion (12 Days to remove Holiday overlay)

California Adventure
Disney's Aladdin - A Musical Spectacular! (Permanent)

These will be in addition to the usual rehabs Disneyland/DCA rides get in winter and spring. Anyone going on Sunday to say goodbye to any of these things? Especially the permanent or long-term closures?

Disney recently announced you will be able to visit the train in Main Street Station while the attraction is closed.

It hints at something similar for the Mark Twain and Columbia. Rumor is it might be an up-sell dining opportunity.

Part of me likes this -- what a great way to let people enjoy the park while going through a major transformation. The other part is like "great, even the rides are just meet-n-greets now".

I tried to go yesterday to see everything one last time, but I got sick earlier this week (still a little sick), so I did something else.

I will truly miss the Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo. I pretty much stopped by every visit to see the animals. I'm really upset am attraction like this is being taken away for something like Star Wars Land.

I've already expressed my extreme anger in the fact that the River will be alternated. That's a bunch of B.S.

Today sucks.

Let's not forget the trail that connects Frontierland and Fantasyland will be closed as well.

Apparently Tony Baxter has said the arch in Big Thunder Ranch originally from Natures Wonderland will survive. So that's a small piece of good news.

Is it bad that the only thing that truly affects my upcoming visit in April is Aladdin and Fantasmic, which I used to watch every trip? All the rest aren't anything I ever frequented.

It's not bad, it's reality. A majority of Disneyland visitors don't ride the four Rivers of America attractions.

The Railroad is different, as a lot of people do ride that at least from one station to the next. Some people make the full circle tour, but the Railroad is used by a lot more people than go on the river rides. It will be interesting to see the long-term impact of a closed Railroad on the park, just from a crowd movement perspective.

Yes
I love the river attractions, but hardly ever go on them. I feel I appreciate them more for ambience and "Walt history" more than anything else. I'm glad they are returning eventually.

I hope the trail is just closed for just the initial demolition of the ranch.

They've done that before during river closures. In 2007 when the Mark Twain and Columbia were closed for several months while they built Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, they parked the Columbia permanently at the Frontierland dock and had musicians and entertainers on board. You could just wander onto the boat to visit the below-decks museum, and sit out on the top deck and listen to the sea shanties being performed and look at the ducks swimming below.

They'll likely do the same thing this time, after they put the water back in the river later this year.

ROA seems to be more about atmosphere than the actual attractions.

Wow. I didn't know that. The Adventureland entrance is going to be even more of a mess than normal if all of that is a dead end now. Better make sure you're where you need to be before the parade starts!
