Tobacco smoking--general question

I know that there is post below inquiring about Cigar smoking, but I have a general tobacco question.

A person in our party smokes, and wants to know if you are able to smoke in the parks, or if there are designated smoking areas?

Also, we are staying at the All Stars Movies Resort. If we have a NonSmoking room, can you smoke outside wherever you want?

Thanks!!!

I am a smoker however i do follow all the rules that Disney has about smoking. Sometimes i think that people take the smoking thing a little to far. I have been yelled at more then once for smoking in the smoking sections and i think thats silly. I dont try to disrupt anyone's trip but when a mother parks her stroller in the smoking section and then yells at me i get steamed. If everyone just followed the rules, there wouldn't be any problems. I feel bad for the CM that got disrespected like that but the sad fact is that most smokers don't follow Disney's rules about smoking. If Disney actually had the spine to say "hey if you smoke in a non smoking area your out of the park" we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. It's hard for CMs to enforce rules about smoking when there is no punishment for doing it.

Most people are really cool about it. In fact I think that the example I gave above is only 1 of 2 times when someone refused to do what I asked. I have seen others go into areas with no traffic and smoke. There is a spot to the right of spaces enterance where I see a lot of people go, usually I just let them be since they are at least showing a effort to get out of the public's way. Only time I ask them to move is if the wind is blowing the smoke into the queue and the line is out the door.

I don't get the smoking area right behind the castle on the walkway. I love the fact that all FLA restaurants are non-smoking. I wish the parks would adopt the same rule. but then, everytime you got to the gates, you'd be greeted by a cloud of smoke. there's not really a practical answer. it's nice being able to out for the night and not come home with your clothes and hair stinking of smoke. I'm up for if you do it outside of the designated area - you're out for the day, no re-entry to any park.

you broke the rule.

I hate going to restaurants back at home with smoking sections. Having all non-smoking restaurants in FL is so nice.

I second that! It's nice to sit down with a big hickory smoked turkey drumstick and not be bothered by tobacco smoke!

Hey there, Thanks for trying!!!!!! I Am a non-smoker and I Am amazed at how inconsiderate some people can be. Most of my friends who do smoke are pretty cautious and considerate but other people I have seen....WOW!!!!!! Belle

Yes, as a smoker , I do say wow, how inconsiderate. But then again, I say OMG to those people who wear perfume who cause me great problems when I cannot breathe. Or, those that cause a health hazard when they: caugh without covering thier mouth, sneeze without covering their nose, spit on the sidewalk, spit gum out on the pavement, wear perfume that smells like they rolled on a road kill ( I am really allergic to some and cannot breathe), etc, etc. In realtiy, there are things that set others off. I don't want to be subject to your unhealthy germs while sneezing or coughing without you covering your offices.
I don't want to subject anyone to my smoking habits while smoking in the appropriate areas. Here is an idea, stay out of the smoking areas, keep your snide commnets to yourself if you should happen upon one and go your merry way and leave the people who obey the rules alone. If you have an issue with smoking, then say something to those who disobey the rules.
I do wonder, however, how you folks deal in the real world. There are allergic trigger all over the place, how do you deal?

As a CM you should have called Security on the guy who blew smoke in your face.

While the majority of the smokers I know are considerate, the ones who choose to ignore the rules are just plan RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! They deserve to be run out of WDW on a rail and NEVER allowed in again.

I've got asthma and a heart condition and I cannot be around smoke of any kind. If someone was in a non-smoking area and decided they were above the rules and smoked around me, it is the same thing to me as attacking me with a knife or gun. They should be charged with assault with a dangerous weapon.

OK....thanks for letting me vent. I don't mean to offend anyone.

I ask, how do you deal in the real world? I follow the rules, yet, you intolerant ones manage to find the smoking areas and complain. Whatever did you do before these rules? What do you do in the real world? Trust me, attacking you with a gun or knife is a whole lot different. You can take responsibility with a smoker and remove yourself. An attack wth those above mentioned weapons is a whole lot different. Your flare for drama is, at least, amusing.

I love you too Gail! Even if you do smoke.

Hey Woody, you know I love you and respect your non smoking rules. I am one of those who really care about someone else and would bend over backwards not to offend. If there is no ashtray, I don't ask, I excuse and go outside. :)
I get terribily annoyed at those who enter a smoking area (clearly defined on the park maps) and have a fit because, heaven forbid, they are following the rules. I get offended because someone says they are "allergic" to outside smoke when that is a medical impossibility. I get nuts when someone says they have some medical situation and get nuts when they know there is going to be that situation when they enter the park. HELLO, do your homework. I am amazed at the number of problems that have arisen since smoking has been NON PC. When these rabid non smokers wish to pick up the tax burden that the smokers pay in "sin tax" revenue, then I will listen to their concerns. Until then, I will file them with the right to lifers ( I am totally prochoice) who scream pro life and have yet to tell me how many children they wish to adopt.
I feel much better now. ;)

Everytime I go I constantly see TEENAGERS (like 14 years old!) wandering around smoking. I guess they think they look cool, but it just annoys the heck out of me. I've only once seen an adult smoking in non designated areas and someone started following him around yelling "this man is poisoining your children with his smoke" and caused a huge scene.

You are not the parent of these young kids, not your problem. MYOB. These kids have parents, let them handle it. For all you know, their parents have allowed them to do this. Surely, you have enough to occupy your time handling your own life. If not, get a job. :)

You know Gail, I sometimes hate it, but you're always right!

You know what, Woody? I am rarely right. I am right for myself. I am considerate of others, always. But, that is correct for me. I just have many issues with being PC, which I think being PC is total BS. I am exceptionally nice to a point, but after, that watch out, I am no longer nice. I smoke, I follow all the rules, hassle me when I am following said rule (have one of those fake attacks in the outdoor air when you are in a smoking area), duck and cover cause this 5'7" woman is going to react and it will be big time. There is a limit to everything, and I have my limits. ;)

Not in my experience Gail. I've seen a lot of your posts over the years. Not all of them are pretty, but they're right. I can't say that I always agree with you 'cause I don't. However, if I ever see a 5' 7" female in the smoking section at MK that I think might be you, I'll hold my breath and go over and give you a hug! :animwink:

I would put the cigarette out for that hug in a NY minute. :) Best bet, Woody, would be Epcot, I am not a fan of "stroller hell"...You are sweet Woody, cannot say all my posts are right or pretty, but, I do state how I feel and what is "
right" for me. BTW, I am glad you don't agree with me 100%. how boring would that be? Are you over on that "other board"?
