To those who rode the original 20k under the sea at DW, can you share your experience?

I remember the lines, the smell, and the dissapointment when I figured out it didnt go under the water. All that said, still really liked that ride and did it several times.

Rode it on my first trip in ‘74. Was totally convinced it dove underwater. Enjoyed the silly serpent face. Thought the floor was wet for some reason. Was a must do on later trips. Very sad when it closed, all the more when it’s replacement was a stupid useless not-a-ride meet and greet.

It was one of our first “Go To” rides when we got to Disney. I remember when the MK would stay open until 1 AM, it would be our last ride of the night. I believe it was an “E” ticket ride. I was totally bummed when they removed it.

I have vague memories of the ride in the 80's. We did it once as a family and were very underwhelmed. Never rode it again, but maybe my parents just didn't like it lol

I remember riding it the first time I was taken to Disney World back in the 70's... being a young kid I thought I was really going under water and I thought it was insanely cool.... then when I was older in the 80's I remember that I realized it was never actually going underwater, and also noticed that it was getting a bit run down.... If you want an idea of what it was like to go to Disneyland and do the Finding Nemo ride, it is the same concept but they toned down the danger element which I remember on 20,000 that I was afraid the squid would get us... now I think my youngest had a great time on it and believed we were really in a submarine, so it is entirely possible that the age of the rider plays the biggest part in how the ride comes across.

I remember sensory things, like the audio, the cool air blowing on the window so it wouldn't get foggy, peering out into the darkness, fun stuff. But I can understand why it was not improved. Too difficult getting into the subs (ADA issues), tiny seats and the queue wasn't anything special. I can only imagine what some advanced underwater AAs would have been like if they had decided to do a refurb; that could have been really neat.
