To rent or not to rent

Here we are, t-minus 5 mnths and have decided to go in Dec.. We usually drive (we are only 12 hrs away) but have found a great flight. Now comes my quandry. We are going to IOA one day and are planning on staying at the Boardwalk Villas. Thus, we need transportation for IOA one day and poss. to Publix for food. Should we rent a car? I have found a great rates with Budget for $160/wk. We are members of Costco and found that on their website. Is it worth the headache? It has been so long since we have had to rent a car for anything.(we like destination traveling) Just wondering what everyone thinks and who you would recommend!

We usually stay at the FW Cabins. We always rent a car. With two young boys we find it worth the money to be able to park right in front of our cabin after a long day as well as not have to wait for buses. Considering the amount that you would pay for any kind of transfer to & from the airport, I find renting the way to go. We are usually in the Parks early, so we are most often parked pretty close to the entrance. We do sometimes use Disney transportation as an option, depending upon the day's destination. I would recommend that you rent from one of the agencies that have a counter IN the terminal as opposed to having to take a shuttle to the company. Also check with your credit card company as well as your insurance company and find out exactly what they cover, as far as liability & CDW. Those charges can really add up if you accept them from the rental company. If you have young kids, bring your own car seats if feasible.

As an FYI, the Dolphin has a National Rental Car onsite(only open 8-4pm). As you probably know the Dolphin is within walking distance to the BWV. We are looking into renting a car there for a day or two for the same reasons as you.

We always rent a car. We like having it in case we need to run out to Publix for something. Plus, there's Universal, Old Town, Belz, etc (all the places we go). If you end up renting the car, check out the Disney outlets at Belz; great deals on lots of merchandise, some of it still selling in the park for full price!
