To remake or not to remake?

Here is my question for the day. When Disney remakes one of its classics is it for the better or not? Example. My daughter and I were sitting down to watch,"Escape to Witch Mountain." A movie I grew up on and loved and all of a sudden I realize that my EtWM has been redone and, well, I really didn't care for it much. I forget the girls name in the movie but, she grew up hot! Parent trap, seen 'em, no real problem there. Just not big on Hailey Mills or the Olson twins I guess. So if you agree, disagee, have another example, or are to young to know the difference, sound off.

I can't think of a SINGLE example of a Disney remake that was as good as the original. (or even came close)

I remember those 70's pictures (they were about the only movies I was allowed to see)

I now sit with my neice and watch these knock offs. They are terrible. The originals wern't THAT great to begin with. But the new ones are like cheap afterschool specials.

p.s. the Olsen Twins didn't star in the Parent Trap.

What does this have to do with theme parks???

Please post in the correct forums. I looked at this thread expecting a discussion on remaking old theme park attractions.

I liked the remake of the Parent Trap, and Lindsey Lohan (sp) was great. (okay, so she's no Haley Mills, but I think I'm the only person alive who bought the entire Disney Classics CD set so that I could have her singing "Let's Get Together" from the original Parent Trap, so I may be biased). As much as I love the original movie, I think that the remake was a very good retelling of the story in the world we live in today.

I also feel the same way about the remake of Freaky Friday that they did as a made-for-TV movie a couple of years ago. Yes, I love the original, and yes I have a great sense of nostalgia for it, but I think that the remake did justice to the original, while retelling the story for today's kids.

Just my 2 cents . . .

I'd watch the remake of The Parent Trap any day over the original. Brian Keith and Maureen O'Hara were great in the original, but Haley Mills makes me want to puke.:hurl:
