To Fan or Not to Fan, that is the question.

So my family is going to WDW 8/9 and 8/10. We aren't normally scared of summer heat (we live in coastal SC, which while not Orlando, is no joke either).

We have never gone to WDW in August though, we normally go in early June. Soooo many videos recommend taking fans though, so I am debating if I should buy some. How necessary do you think they are? Honestly, we try to travel as light as possible, so the thought of having to carry a bag to carry all of the fans is the hurdle for me. Even with the rain, half the time everyone just gets soaked rather than deal with the annoying ponchos. Last time, I just used one of my loungefly bags. I saw a video of someone's melting in the heat though, which game me pause on doing that this time ROFL. The time before that, I just used baggy cargo shorts with large pockets.

So question is do you think I should deal with the inconvenience of carrying around a fan to make the day easier. Or just leave it behind and like we do in June, take breaks indoors? And if I should get them, mind giving me your thoughts on what to get? Amazon only has about 1,000,000 to choose from.

I think it totally depends on the fan. They can be anything from dollar store trinkets to more complicated “personal cooling devices”. I think the cheap ones that blow a little air can easily be replaced by an old fashioned paper fan. The better quality ones, I’m not sure.

I don't think you will need one, but if you do, they do sell them in Florida. I presume you are talking about a battery powered hand held one. It does get hot there, but it gets pretty scorching in the Carolina's too. The best part about getting them in Florida is on your last day, you can sell them to some other family that looks like they are about to drop. That way you don't have to travel with them.

We live in the same heat in Louisiana and my wife and kids both use fans in summer. Kids also like cooling towels. A gallon zip lock bags work great to store them.

I believe Disney sells cooling towels for a premium if you want to try without anything and see how you do.

There is no significant difference between June vs August.

The change from June to August, if you were to notice, likely would be rainfall and not swelter.

June through Sept is more or less the same level of misery with on average more chance of afternoon showers in July and Aug.
Not for us.....
This past June was cooler and less humid than any August.
Also look at any weather app.....there is a difference

Predatory fanning.

Sure, but that can be true for any summer or near summertime weather. I have been in September twice and one time it was pleasant in the low 80's and the other time it would melt the elastic on your underwear. However, I have never found it to be any worse than it can get in North Carolina. Timing and luck is everything in life.

I bought a couple cheap ones for our trip last September and we never used them. When it got really hot, like in line for BTM, I asked everyone of they wanted them and nobody did. I say skip them.

Yes, there’s difference

that is why I said no *significant* difference, meaning the change from June to Aug is not big enough to get vacationers to adjust plans and/or pack different clothing to deal with heat.

Any fan that you will be carrying with you in the parks will not make enough of a difference in the humidity and heat that August brings. They typically have very little power and dont cool you down much. Weve used cooling towels which help for a short amount of time but still dont do enough for a long park day. August is brutal and there isnt a lot you can do to counter it other than finding occasional A/C, shade, stay hydrated, pace yourself, and take breaks at the resort pool. Carrying/ holding fans will also become tiresome and add to wearing you down.
