To Drive or...take the bus.

We are staying at Pop in very early December. We will have a rental car (what happens when you can't get a cheap flight into Orlando airport). Should we utilize the bus system for the parks or drive ourselves?
I've never used the bus system, so I am very curious on your thoughts! Thanks!

I'd drive.

If you're going to the MK, leaving before closing and are sure you want to go straight back to the hotel when you're done, you should consider the bus to the MK. It might save time!

Otherwise, drive. It's quicker, easier and nicer.

I rarely to never drive. I don't live in an Urban community so it drives me nutty. And I have a healthy fear of the the speed some of these vehicles are traveling. DME vs CM's Car a week ago. I bus it but try and stay off the MK monorail.

Plus in the evening I do like to sample the adult beverage selection. Not getting behind the wheel after those wonderful margaritas.

I always take the bus even when we have a car....just means one more thing to keep track of, where you parked, longer walk.

Last time, my mom couldn't find our BRIGHT BLUE rental car, she started coping what everyone else was doing...sounding the alarm on the car. It was a bit embarrassing, but it did lead us to our car!

When you take the bus it is only a short walk to the entrance and there is no fee, plus i've never had problems with the bus and sometimes you learn things from the driver. But if you know you will be taking the car to the resort you might as well drive to the parks

We, ok my Dear Hubby, drove us down to WDW and we really preferred the bus. It was no biggie to us to wait if one bus was full for the next one to come around. It gave us time to look around-people watch. Dear Hubby did not want to drive when we got there after 2 days of driving to get there. He enjoyed someone else doing the driving and just showing up to ride the bus, or the boat, or the ferry. While we were the first picked up at Saratoga and had a bit of a drive at the other stops it just ment that we were first dropped off of the crowded bus, which in Nov were not that bad.

Bus the first day, drive the second and see which one works best for you guys.
I always said I would never rent a car in WDW, but once I did, I won't go back to the buses. Driving myself is almost always faster, and I don't have to stand on a bus/sit on a bus with a stranger's bum in my face. Plus, driving to the MK gives me an excuse to ride the monorail. I almost never do otherwise.

We drive to the resort and then we use the buses. The only time we take our vehicle is when we go to downtown Disney or have to go off property for some reason. We enjoy letting Disney do the driving. If you have resort dining reservations then the private vehicle can save a lot of time

It all depends on your traveling party. If you're traveling with small children that may be dependent on naps and strollers, you'll probably find that driving to the parks less of a hassle. Nothing is worse than waiting for a overcrowded bus when a toddler is about to have a melt down because of no nap.

However if you're traveling with older children or sans kids, the bus is usually pretty easy and quick. One caveat, the value resorts bus service tends to be really crowded and seemingly few buses in between.

Just remember, driving to MK requires you to park, take a tram to the TTC, then choose either the monorail or ferry before getting to the front gate. This could mean an hour's trip from the moment you leave your hotel room!
Buses deposit you right at the front gate in all of the parks' cases.

We fly. We don't rent a car. I'm in a car in traffic all week long at home. The buses were so packed on our last trip this past June that I think I might have actually sat down about 20% of the time. I ALWAYS gave up my seat to someone who I knew needed it more and just stood up and grabbed a strap or a bar. Think early EMH as far as gettin' to sit down. I didn't give a bloated rodents beeeeehind, though. I was either so excited to get there or had been standing all day anyway, so it just didn't matter.
Plus, I tend to imbibe a bit, so as has been mentioned before in this thread, let someone else who's ( presumably o_O) sober do the driving.

Drive except for maybe MK and DTD... the latter just if you are drinking :)

Basically the car will always beat the bus except at MK. But that can be weighed by the desire to AVOID the bus terminal leaving the MK. The resort monorail and ferry can get you back without much hassle.. unlike the bus terminal.
