To decorate or not decorate...

That's just it. I couldn't imagine taking the time away from my Disney vacation to spend decorating a room that I'll only be in for a bit of time. I was just wondering if people really did this or if it was a small group of people. I know the first year we stayed at CBR; the mousekeepers put our children's stuffed Disney toys in the window to greet them upon their return each night...but I've never seen decorations until today and that was on the internet.

One Little Spark...
Honestly I've never heard of anyone doing that! I just looked it up and it looks like some people put up little characters or window cling-ons, especially for holidays. I have heard of people putting things on their doors on Disney cruises though. Anyway do what you think is fun, it's your vacation lol. I'm just not sure who would actually see it besides the people in the room.

I saw it at Pop Century...lots of people were doing it. I saw a lot of vinylmation collections, stuffed animals, etc...

Some windows were extremely creative!

We shopped for and packed halloween decorations for our trip last October....and they stayed in the suitcase!!! Frankly we were just too excited to do the parks and everything there is to do and although it seemed like a fun/cool idea at home in all practicality...not so much.

We had spider webs, purple LED lights, strobe light and some other doo dads and they are still somewhere buried in a drawer here at home still in the bags. Decorating our window just paled in comparison to all the things to do at Disney. I have seen plenty of windows decorated at the resorts but for us we just came back to the room long enough to shower, pass out and do it all over again the next day.

Those pictures are really cute! I have never seen that done before, but I think I'd definitely do it. Window clingy's & lights would probably be the direction I'd go, especially if it were holiday time. One of the things we usually do is bring magnets for the fridge or mini-fridge inside the room. Then we hang up little things we collect during the week - photo strips, magic certificates, pool activity schedule, resort map...etc.

First I want to say we have decorated our room window on every trip since we started going to WDW even if it's just a weekend trip. We love doing it and I think we have become pros at it. By the time we're done it looks like a mini Macy's display in a Pop Century window. Second we have it down to a science of decorating a window in about ten minutes. If you think no one will see it, here's a few examples that's not true. Example one: We were eating at Pop and the people at the table next to us were talking about the window with the lights, etc. etc. they saw and we couldn't help but grin because they were talking about us. And we were in a room facing the lake! Example two: We were at the Hippy Dippy pool and someone swimming was talking about the room with the miniature blinking disco ball in the window. Again, this was us and our room was way over in the far 50's building. We get most of our decorations at dollar stores, JoAnn Fabrics and department store clearance shelves. Below are some ideas of what we've done.

Jan-tissue paper/cardboard snowmen, miniature Dickens winter scene people, houses and fir trees sitting in cotton balls that are covering the window sill, homemade cutout snowflakes taped to window, clear icicle lights hanging from window top and a backdrop of cotton batting with white prism glitter so it sparkles

Feb-assorted Valentine's written to different characters and miniature heart balloons on a stick in a vase and Mickey Mouse sitting in fake rose petals covering window sill, homemade construction paper candy hearts with sayings taped to window, red lights framing window and a red satin backdrop

Mar-(for Epcot Flower and Garden Festival)-homemade tinker fairy village made with stuff from around our yard with Tink and friends from Disney playset sitting in fake grass covering window sill, fake ivy/floral vines and Tinkerbell lights (from a camping store) looped down from window top, a few fairies flying using clear fishing string attached to window top and a backdrop of green satin

Apr-yellow Easter grass covering window sill with a stuffed bunny holding miniature basket on one side and a basket full of Disney Easter goodies on other side and plastic eggs in middle, homemade construction paper carrots and bunny paw prints making a zigzag trail from basket to bunny taped to window, blue lights framing window and a jelly bean print backdrop

May-(SWW)-silver felt covering window sill with stormtrooper action figures pointing their blasters and Darth Vader action figure pointing his lightsaber at the large R2D2 popcorn bucket sold at WDW and a C3PO action figure, a X-Wing model and a tie fighter model hanging using clear fishing string from window top, blinking white lights framing window, silver bulletin board cutout letters spelling out "STAR WARS WEEKENDS" and old Star Wars trading cards taped to window and a black satin backdrop that we added glitter "stars" and a Death Star applique to

Jun-tiki statues, hula girls and paper drink parasols sitting in green easter grass covering window sill, tiki masks and flowers from a broken lei taped to window, grass hula skirt framing top of window and a string of tiki lights (from a camping store) hung across the top, battery operated tea lights framing bottom of window and a blue ocean wave material backdrop

To be continued

To be continued[i can't wait for fall! I bought some window clings and left them at home. I completely forgot about them until like a month later. I think I threw them out by mistake. I think the windows are a nice way of recognizing your room. I plan to do it this year (and let's hope I remember to bring them!)

Dec-(MVMCP)-green felt covering window sill, miniature decorated Christmas tree complete with skirt and miniature toy train and track as centerpiece and under the tree we placed old Monopoly game pieces to look like presents, animated lighted Christmas figures in corners of windows and small wrapped presents with bows (we used mini tissue packs), candy canes/stockings with old Disney gift cards I'd kept/gift tags "To assorted characters" "From my DD" taped to the window, red/green twist garland with red/white/green blinking lights framing window and a midnight blue satin backdrop on which we made gold glitter stars and attached an applique of Santa and his reindeer in flight and a Bethlehem Star applique

Well as you can see we like decorating our window. The next time you are at Pop or Music and see a window that makes you stop and say, dang would you look at that!, it's probably us. :) I hope this inspires some of you to do your windows. It helps if you've been to the resort you're staying at before so you know the what you have to work with. I would also say plan it before you go and only take what you are sure to use. For lights, take an extension cord. For batteries, get rechargeable. You can pin things to the sheer curtains only or use clothes pins or clamp-style paperclips. Use good strong tape that won't leave residue or pack some nail polish remover. I make it a point to not leave any decorating mess for Mousekeeping to clean up. Just have fun and let your creative side take over. :D

Those windows do look cool. I was pretty impressed to see what people do to decorate their campsites at WDW - that's pretty cool too. Some people are happy to spend some time in their rooms/campsites/etc. decorating. I think I'd be too excited/busy to do that, but it's pretty cool and would be fun to look at if others did it to their windows.

We don't specifically bring stuff to decorate with, but we'll put the wash cloth animals in there, the kids masks/Duffy Bears from Kidcot, any little characters my son has, etc.
