Tips for Soarin'

Be at the gates at 9:00, go first to Soarin', immediately FastPass it, then get in the regular line and ride it. The wait time should be minimal first thing. Save your FP for later in the day.

Go early and go often. Best ride ever. We actually sent a "runner" from our party with everyone's tickets as soon as we walked in the gates. We did do a walk on early, but since we knew every one would want to do it again, we held the fast passes in reserve.

As a Soarin' flight attendant, I will give you the best advice I can possibly give...
To echo what others said, you need to be IN the park gates 20-30 minutes before the park opens. You will procede to the area where "rope drop" is right behind SSE but before the fountain. Hang to the farthest right you can. The CMs from Soarin' will be out to escort the crowd to the ride. If you are in sight of a CM you will likely be one of the first to ride. Remember, the ride holds 87 people at a time and in 2 theaters that means 174 people will get on. If you are going to want to ride again, get Fastpasses BEFORE you go in for your first flight. DON'T WORRY - as long as you're in those gates before 9:30 you will have a minimal wait time. Fastpass times typically don't begin until about 9:40 anyways so you won't be jockeying with those Fastpass-using guests to get on the first few flights (and that's what keeps the standby line busy).
Fastpass always gets superbusy and thus produces really late return times when the Standby line gets packed, so if you want to ride make sure to be one of the first to arrive! And, remember, EVERYONE has the same idea as you...so just be patient.

We used the Unofficial Guide strategy and it worked really well. We were in the park at the rope drop. I took the wife and kids' passes and jogged to Soarin to get fast passes, while they walked to Test Track. We rode Test Track, MS, then Soarin within the first hour and a half the park was opened. The rest of the day was leisurely, with the three big waits out of the way.

just got back... was there the 17th-27th.
I think i was at epcot 3 of the days.
EVERY SINGLE TIME i went to soarin' the line was AT LEAST 60 mins long. And this is one of the slowest times of the year. I tried pretty early, very late (magic hours) and middle of day. It was busy allll the time with it at 90 mins at one point.
The only way i was able to get on it was getting a fastpass very early in the day.
So thats my advice

Actually, not true. The last week, in fact, was the highest attendance since summer. I've watched the wait time creep from a peak of 45 to 115 some days.
