Tips for a pregnant woman at Disney World

It is looking like a very real possibility we are going to Florida in October. My wife and our three kids (aged 20 months to 6 by then) and my parents or at least my mother might just tag along too, which is great. I've been in October, it's a great time to go. There is a great deal for a hopper pass that actually shaves a lot of coin off of the normal price and I thought a 4-day pass with the water park option (4 days at the theme parks and an extra 4 days at the water parks if you want) is what I'll get. It really is no different than just a normal 4-day hopper pass and we won't be going to the water parks more than once anyway likely.

So there is a chance my wife will be pregnant by then. We don't know, but we are at a crossroads and might decide by then. If so, chances are she is 4-5 months pregnant which is perfect really. She likes the rides but if she has an excuse to not ride Space Mountain, she'll take it. Here are the rides they suggest you don't go on if you are pregnant:

Magic Kingdom - Space, Thunder, Splash, Tomorrowland Speedway
Epcot - Body Wars, Mission Space, Test Track
Animal Kingdom - Dinosaur, Everest, Primeval Whirl, Kali Rapids, Kiliminjaro Safari
Hollywood Studios - Star Tours, ToT, Rock N Rollercoaster

Not bad really. According to Disney there is really only 15 rides combined at all the parks. Obviously Typhoon Lagoon she's fine and she doesn't go on the slides to begin with. The discount we are going to get saves us a lot of money and wouldn't be much more than a 2-3 day pass. So she doesn't have to go all out the way I would with our son, who is the oldest. She might like that and my mom will barely go to the parks anymore and would be content staying (off site) at the pool at the resort. So it isn't as if my wife wouldn't have some company if she wanted it.

That being said, can I have some more tips from the women who went there pregnant. Are there other rides you would suggest not to go on? Pirates has that small dip but that shouldn't be a big deal. Winnie the Pooh you are hopping a bit. What else should she sit out? We'll have an infant with us, so we might need to take turns sitting out as it is, but any tips would be great.

We went to WDW last November and my wife was 5 months pregnant at the time. She skipped the rides that Disney suggests you don't go on while pregnant, which you've identified in your list. I believe she also skipped 7DMT. We went on Pirates no problem, even with the small dip. Can't speak to Winnie the Pooh because we didn't ride it. Disney seems to have a good variety of rides for all ages, which helped. Universal, on the other hand, had only a couple rides that she could actually ride. We decided afterward that it wasn't worth the cost of the Universal ticket and she would have been better off doing anything else.

Body wars have been shutdown 10 years ago sooo heres the new list

Magic Kingdom - Space, Thunder, Splash, Mine Train (Dumbo is safe if you just go all the way up and not mess with it)
Epcot - Soarin', Mission Space, Test Track, Frozen Ever After,
Animal Kingdom - Dinosaur, Everest, Primeval Whirl, Kali Rapids, flight of passage (For the safari it depends on the day and time)
Hollywood Studios - Star Tours, ToT, Rock N Rollercoaster,

That list looks a lot more familiar. That said, she did ride Soarin', Frozen, and the Safari without issue, so I guess we didn't totally follow their recommendations. Frozen is very similar to Pirates from what I remember. I believe there is a drop and a couple bumpy-ish areas, but it wasn't a problem for her. I'm not sure why Soarin' is on there. The Safari was a little bumpy but no worse than a lot of roads we've experienced.

I've done Disney at 8 months pregnant with both of my girls. I avoided any ride which Disney says to avoid. I did avoid the Safari at Animal Kingdom, but I was much farther along than she will be.
My word of advice, depending on how she is feeling, is to rent her a wheelchair. My legs got pretty swollen after being in the parks and there aren't too many places to sit in the shade - particularly in the Magic Kingdom. It was nice to have the wheelchair in a shady spot while the hubby and daughter went on rides.

Soarin' is only if u have a fear of heights and pregnant at the same time. It wouldn't be a smart decision

I went at 4 months with my daughter I was not showing at all and pretty much rode just about everything, the only rides I skipped were TOT, RRC, Everest and Dinosaur. The little bit of jostling on the safari and star tours did not bother me, nor Space Mountain or Splash mountain, but again I, I was not showing at all there was no huge baby bump so I could do more. One ride I wish I had avoided was Buzz lightyear, the little tunnel made me sick ( this however could have been just me because the tunnel in Space Mountain did not bother me).

Any ride where there is a bar type restraint that would be impossible, with a round belly, to get a safe type. Another would be any ride where there is a super amount of jarring droppng etc.

Winnie the pooh should be fine for a normal healthy pregnant woman. Frozen and pirates are not shake you up throw you around kind of drops and again, would be fine. They are barely any different than riding in a car going down a hill.

I have been to Disney pregnant. The worst for me is I have lots of "morning" (all day) sickness always that last 20+ weeks. So if we were there during the first half of my pregnancies, I would be constantly feeling barfy to some degree. Also, I could get lightheaded feeling easily during those times so I found it best to eat every couple hours or so. I would carry lots of little snack items with me.

Yeah, didn't even notice that I copied a very OLD list. Now that I think of it, very surprised that the Mine Train wasn't on there, which I know now why for obvious reasons.

My wife never did have morning sickness at all. I think she'll be fine that way again since she'll be right in the middle of the pregnancy if that happens, and if we go.

Just a heads up... Every pregnancy is different, my wife has had two kids with one of them everything was fine, with the other she was sick as a dog for almost the entire pregnancy spending more time in the bathroom than in any other room... So just beware that even if your wife had no issue with the first go-round she could very well be nauseous beyond belief where even the boats of small world could make your puke... If going to Disney is a rare thing for your family and you don't know when you will do it again you might want to consider if you want to start baby number 3 before you go.

It'll be number 4..............we already have three little people kicking around. But yes, fair points, and we'll monitor it as we go as well. My wife is more of a hybrid type when it comes to rides. She'll keep up with me but is just as content doing things that my mother would do and relax and just stay at the pool. So we'll play it by ear. As far as I am concerned that is a good problem to have because it means we'll have had the money to go.

Mom to 6 kids here and a few pregnant trips. My best advice is to start a walking program if you are not usually active. I am that annoying mom that works out while pregnant because I need to keep my stamina up to hang with my older kids. I did 17 hours 34 weeks pregnant with our 5th at MK and was fine. My SIL was 24 weeks and got a scooter after day 2, she has a desk job and is annoying thin with out a fitness plan, but she could not keep up stamina wise.
Like an above poster said morning sickness can be a real pain, I have had Hypermesis Gravidarm with all 6 pregnancies. 15 weeks with baby #3 in EPCOT was horrid with smells. Thankfully I found a medicine/herbaly combo that really helped with later pregnancies.
If you are prone to pregnancy induced hypertension or edema (swelling) I would think long and hard about going and talk to your OB. I had high BP that landed me in the hospital a few times with babies #4 and #6 and avoided trips with those pregnancies.
Drink a bottle of water an hour, stretch to avoid leg cramps at night and perhaps use
a belly support band/belt if you get low lying cramps From walking.
While We had good trips while pregnant I prefer not pregnant because I love to RIDE!
My best advice, eat as many Mickey Bars as you can...
Wishing you a happy and healthy pregnancy and baby:)

In agreement with the "every pregnancy is different" comment. My mom, no morning sickness during any of her pregnancies. Me, I started my 8th week and continued nearly every day until the day I gave birth. And smells, omg, I couldn't stand the smell of cheese, fish, laundry soap, chicken. But I had a craving for Mexican....go figure. But she'll be far enough along and should be past that stage, hopefully. *fingers crossed*

I like the idea of renting a wheelchair. Since this will be No. 4, she'll probably start showing sooner. My feet are tired after a day at WDW. I can't imagine being 4-5 months along, with 3 kids in tow. Your wife is a saint!

Enjoy your trip! And congrats, in advance, on No. 4!
