Tipping

I know there have been several threads on this, and I have posted in a few of them, but I need my memory refreshed on something. When you pull up to the resort and someone takes your bags, is that the same guy that takes them up to your room for you? I guess what I'm asking is if I'm supposed to tip him right there at the car, or, if he is the same guy, tip him at the room? I had been thinking I'd tip him at the car before going inside, but the thought occured to me that he might be the same one who takes the stuff up to my room, in which case, I might look like a schmuck handing him money there at the car.

Of course, now that I think of it, that might be where I have to tip him anyway, because I plan to arrive a few hours before check in time and do that thing where I get my resort ID and then go on my merry way and come back when the room is ready. And I doubt he'll be there waiting for his tip when I come back.

And it's a buck or two per bag, right? Is a little carry on bag the same "tip value" as a big suitcase?

1$ per bag... $2 for extra heavy bags. No less than $5 total if it's a few bags. No less than $20 if you filled an entire luggage cart.... add an additional $10 for each luggage cart that's required.

Failure to do this may result in flaming dog mookiestinks.

Good question. I was wondering about this myself. And who else do you tip? Of course, waiters at your sit down meals but what about the DME bus drivers? Others? (have to buget ya know)

heh - not really used to tipping. Only at resturants IF the service and food exceeds my expectations.

Poor bell boy was standing for ages before i realised that i was suppossed to tip him. I gave $20 for two bags....(it was a 4 star resort so i think that was just expected)

IMHO the disney transport is free, therefore tipping every bus driver is a bit much. They do get wages remember! Not much, but i dont think they expect tipping tbh... I know over here it is against some companies rules and regulations for staff - such as the garden centre i worked at.

Our DME driver actually made the statement that if you appreciated the fact that he delivered you safely to your hotel, he expected to be tipped. Made me wonder, what if he wrecked the bus? Did that let me off the hook for a tip?

Not another tipping thread. The OP got his question answered. Let's have someone close this now before we get into another heated debate over tipping.

I've yet to see a tipping thread get heated or put in the category of pool hopping or using refillable mugs again and again. Most folks just state what they do, so then people can get an idea of what they will do.

I will tip the DME driver if I have any bags or things put under the bus on the way in or out. I feel that is only right since the idea of tagging your luggage and it being handled separately he's not being paid for that IMO.

Maybe it was on one of those *other* message boards, but I have seen threads about tipping get heated. Mostly when people voice their opinion that so&so not tipping their server/housekeeper/bellhop makes them an idiot, or some such. I've seen it happen.

I've spoken to people who have tipped at the car and then when they got the bags at the room a different guy delivered the bags and was expecting a tip. He told him he tipped the first guy but the second guy didn't seem to care and expected a tip. I vote for when you get the bags at the room (edit), if you remember the guys name at the car, you can mention it to the room guy that he splits it with them since he did assist. Maybe this will heat things up.... just kidding.

Well my main question was whether or not the guy who loads your stuff on the luggage cart is the same one who takes it up to the room. If they are different people, then I guess I would tip the first guy at the car and the second guy at the room.

But we're driving down, so the magical express thing has nothing to do with it. I just needed to know if there are two different people involved in bringing the stuff from the car to the room, or if it is all the same guy.

I've found that it's usually two different people. One is the valet, the other is the bellman. When checking-in, we leave our car at valet (no tip - we usually only tip when picking UP our car). Then, we check-in and the luggage in sent up to our room, where we usually tip the bellman $2/bag minimum.

Hope this helps...

I did tip the DME driver when he unloaded our bags. I honestly didn't even think about tipping the person that brings the bags to the room because as soon as we check in, we hit the parks. I mean sometimes the room isn't ready yet. I will have to look into that next trip.

I will tip valets, bellhops, room maids/mousekeepers but as far as table service dinners only if something extrodinary is done for us way above and beyond as we will be on the dining plan and that already includes an 18% tip built into the price of the plan. Hope you all realize that......:hammer:

Ya, that brings up another good question. If the guy who brings my bags to the room is not the same guy who greets me as I pull in (and loads the bags onto the cart), then how do I tip him if I check in early and my room is not ready? From the way it sounds, I leave the luggage, check in, get my resort ID, then go play somewhere until it is time for my room to be ready, then I go to my room and my luggage is there waiting for me. How am I supposed to tip the guy who did that?

Go to bell services and give them your room number. They keep a record of who is dispatched where. If for some reason they do not have this information, you may not be able to get the tip to the correct person. If that is the case, I wouldnt worry much about it since its the way the system is set up. You can help that.
