All right. This is to all the judgemental and small minded people out there that tend to think the only way someone puts on weight is because of poor choices and bad eating habits. I have done some research and here is some proof that sometimes, the deck can be stacked against you from the start. Here's a list I found from a website that shows how some types of medications can cause problems....

"Antihistamines
The effect: Allergy drugs containing diphenhydramine (such as Benadryl) have a sedating effect that saps your energy if you take them regularly. You’re not as active, so you’re burning fewer calories.

Antidepressants
The effect: Some antidepressants affect neurotransmitters in your brain that control appetite and mood, both of which can make you eat more.

Sleep aids
The effect: You’ll find that common culprit, diphenhydramine, in over-the-counter sleep aids, such as Tylenol Simply Sleep, Sominex, or Nytol, or “nighttime” versions of cold and pain medicines, like Sudafed PE Nighttime Cold or Excedrin PM.

Migraine meds
The effect: Depakote and Depakene, medicines which are sometimes used to prevent recurring migraines, can make you want to eat more

Steroids
The effect: Prednisone, often used to treat rheumatoid arthritis and chronic inflammation, can make you feel ravenously hungry."

And that just some of the medications for common health issues....

here's a quote from a medical website that sums it it pretty nicely to me...

"It's important to remember that there are other, underlying causes that can contribute to one's tendency to become overweight or obese.

There are some factors in weight gain that we simply have no control over. For example. some illnesses may lead to weight gain, such as Cushing's disease. Certain medications like steroids and antidepressants may also cause weight gain. There are also other underlying issues that often lead to weight gain, such as genetics, environmental factors, psychological issues, physical inactivity</B> due to injury or illness, and eating disorders, such as BED (binge eating disorder)."

All I am saying is, we all come here to talk about our passion and love for all things Disney. Not to hear someones opinion on fat people or to hear someone making fun of someone else, regardless the reason. Is it too much to ask for a little common decency?

P.S. If this doesn't belong in this section of the forums, I apologize. Just thought that since this is where I have seen most of the comments, it might be the best place to post it.

Now your the one being judgmental. Lots of things that some people find funny others find offensive. THat doesnt mean someone is right and someone is wrong. This is America and we have rights to do and say what we want. What you want is censorship. Stop caring so much about what other people you dont even know think about you.

pretty sure it's about the 200 other threads that mention overweight people/scooters/eating etc etc etc. Not just the one little post that you're referring to

Well obviously MickeyDent cares.

His point is not about what people think, but about HOW people think and respond to others on this board. This board doesn't put up with a lot of the CRAP that others boards are know for.

Your not going to change how people think by making a thread, again if one cares then that person is the one with the problem. A person is a person (gay, fat, skinny, weird, goth, nerd, tall, short) its a person regardless. They enjoy their life the way they want and not by what other people think.

I'm not being judgemental. Just a little tired of hearing about it and wanted to vent.

You are right. Everyone has a right to think what they want and feel how they want. It comes down to what is appropriate to say or not.

And I hate to break it too you but the "This is America and we have rights to do and say what we want." is always true. The freedom of speech thing is NOT absolute. Don't agree? Yell "fire" in a movie theater and see what happens.

I do NOT believe in censorship in any way, shape, or form when it comes to speech. However, I do feel we should be mindful of how our words and statements impact others. All I am asking is for people to show a little consideration and to honestly think how their actions and words affect others.

For the record. It's not what other people THINK that bothers me. I'm just tired of the "The world revolves around me" attitude that society seems to have.

That is against the law, and for obvious reasons. Joking about someone wont send a large group of people into mass histeria.

It's called a joke, if you don't like it you have the right to ignore it.

Well maybe YOU are in America, but you are on a British website.

About an American Theme Park

But a British site all the same. So your right to do and say what you want is not guaranteed here.

This is NOT a democracy, this is a privately run website.

You MUST abide by the rules here.

If this site wants to be held to a higher standard, then so be it.

If this site wants to continue to bash people because of their age, race, sax/orientation, weight then so be it also.

We do not make the rules. This is NOT America.

Look, for the record. I do not care what people think of fat people. I'm just tired of really good threads highjacked into a "let's make fun of the fat people" thread.

ANd yes, I understand yelling "fire" in a theater is a crime and not exactly on the same level as making fun of someone. I was refering to your statement of having the right to "say what you want". The freedom of speech the constitution refers to is the freedom to voice disapproval of the government. To speak out against them if you feel they are in the wrong. Want another example that "freedom of speech" has been misinterpreted? Stand on a street corner in Harlem NY and start telling black jokes.

As far as the whole FAT thing goes, if your boss was fat, would you go up to him and start making fat jokes? Would you tell him how he is only fat because he makes poor choices? I know, you would tell him how digusting he is to you because he's fat!!! Of course no one in their right mind would do that. But why not? Most likely it is because you wouldn't want to get fired.

If your son or daughter were fat, would you constantly tell them how disgusted you were by them? Of course not. You would most likely try to encourage them to change if possible. All I am asking is we show the same kind of consideration for each other here. We all come here to discuss Disney and our love of it. Not to hear someone get a cheap laugh at someone else's expense. Even if that person is just a name on a message board.
