Time to kill..

We will have about 6 hours to kill when we get to our off site villa before we can check in.

What are some good nature parks or other nice areas that are free to visit? We really don't a budget for outside the parks, so free is best!

I agree with DTD. We go there almost every trip, and rarely buy anything. Everything there that is Disney-related is also in the parks, so we just use it as a way to know in advance the types of things we may want to pick up later in the trip.

But, also since you'll have a car, you should consider doing what most people can't, and check out the different Disney hotels! It's not easy to get around from hotel to hotel on the property. I've always wanted to go see AKL and several others, and just have never been able to get over to them. Some hotels even have free afternoon tours I think??

Yup to just walk around. Still feels like your at Disney and is free. Go in the shops and walk. Also walking around the resorts isn't a bad idea. That's free.

We've always cruised around to the different resorts to enjoy the theming and try our hand at pin trading. The kids always have some pin they're desperate to get their hands on and this gives them a jump start at completing their collection.

A few thoughts:

1. Park at the Fort Wilderness area and walk around a little.
2. Ride the monorail and stop at some of the connected resorts to look around.
3. Why no suggestions in Davenport? I've been there.

We also stay off site and have had the "hours to kill" problem.

1) Let whoever you're renting from know that you'll be in the area before official check-in time and ask to be notified if the villa/house is available early. Our place is usually ready a couple hours before than the official time, the owner just texts us when it's ready.

2) Dr. Phillips Community Park (google for address & info) is a great spot to kill time. There are nice walking paths, picnic tables, a playground, splash pad, dog park, basketball hoops - all kinds of stuff. Restrooms are always spotless, the whole place is very well maintained.

One more tip: if you're driving around outside the immediate Disney area, PREPARE FOR TOLLS. There are a million toll roads and Florida (as far as I know) is still using a Florida-specific "Sun Pass", NOT the more common EZ-Pass. I cannot begin tell you how many times we ended up scrabbling around for 75 cents in nickels or whatever because of all the random tolls. Often the toll booth is not manned and ONLY takes change, or ONLY takes singles, so be sure to keep some of each in the car.

I would resort hop OR go to DTD to look around. Find a nice beach area to nap. Fort Wilderness is a fun place to walk around. They house the horses used in MK for the trolley, the barn is free to visit. From there it is a short boat ride to the Wilderness Lodge or the Contemporary (from FW) and they have nice shops and great lobbies to look around. I could kill an entire day and not spend a dime!
