time for naps in december?

we're takiing our boys (ages 2 and 4.5) to WDW in early December, the unofficial guide stress the importance of nap breaks from the park. Would you have time for naps in Dec. w/ the limited park hours?would you need them if the parks are only open from @ 9-6 instead of being open till 9?

I think .. this would depend on your child .. do they normally take naps to start with, at the age or 2 our granddaughters didnt .. but they were tired early in the day ..so the short park hours could mean your boys will be ready for bed early in the evening.

Epcot will be open until 9, so you might want to plan a nap on those days, or spend the early part of the day at a park with early hours, nap, then go to Epcot (or any other park closing late)until closing.

mom, thats exactly what we were thinking about epcot. were mainly just going ther for the late afternoon and dinner 2 nights - character dinner at garden grill and chef de france, maybe light late lunch at san angel inn( my 4 y.o. ask to eat chips and salsa every day)

your just joking right?? you couldnt be serious?? I can never believe it when I hear people saying "my kids arent old enough" heck the 2 year old wont cost them admission or add to the cost of the room .. besides ..taking them young builds that love of the disney Magic .. I think if every child got to go to the World at least once a year .. you would see alot less trouble with them as they grew older :)

I took my daughter for the first time when she was about 18 months old. Like others, I thought I should wait until she was "old" enough, but my 15 year old niece was visiting, and I knew her parents didn't have the funds to take her, so I did. My daughter loved it so much, and we had so much fun, that I started taking her back every few months until my son was born 9 years later! I started taking him when he was 6 months old without too much trouble. I will admit that it's easier now that he's 8, but I also miss the excitement he used to have upon spotting a favorite character!

However, I will note that I used the old turquoise strollers, which were much easier for napping. I had a special , extremely thin muslin sheet that I clipped on with bulldog clips which covered the whole stroller. The stroller reclined completely. If she started to fade, I would find a shady spot to sit, and take out my book and water bottle and relax while she slept. I even had an extra poncho to clip on in case of rain, and a small receiving blanket to keep her warm when it was cold, and cover the stroller seat if it was hot. I had a diaper bag that fit perfectly into the basket, and the strollers were sturdy enough to put light packages on the roof. They also had a stainless steel expandable footrest which was great for pushing through crowds...a real heel rammer! ;)

We used the same strollers :) and I will never forget hearing someone say "ooo look out here come strollers" :) now we are the ones dodging strollers :) .. going with a baby means you will have to tote a sleeping child and your going to be carrying all that baby stuff around, I sure dont miss the diaper bags ...ohhh and even though we missed a year ..dont they still have the baby care centers? you could go in and they had rockers and cribs and playpens.

No I am not joking. I firmly believe that one should not take their childern to WDW at such a young age. They will remember more, share more thoughts and feelings and have a greater impression made upon them when the are a little older.

I'm glad I took my children, especially my youngest, before age 6. My son might not remember that time his grandparents, especially my father, joined us, but I do, and that's a memory I'll always cherish!

I went when I was "3" to DL (over 30 some years ago :animwink: ) And I had such a love for Disney. I can remember bits and pieces of it still to this day. Whether it is actually "remembering" what happened, or just seeing the pictures and remembering moments, I don't know. But it's STILL with me. I would have done anything to have taken my daughter when she was younger, but we just couldn't. I know some people have very very fussy babies and toddlers and maybe in that case they would want to wait, but you never know till you try, Heck, I'm an adult and Still become fussy at times :zipit:


Mom, I loved your description of what you did when your children were little. I imagine you have so many wonderful memories and pictures, and have given your children many wonderful memories also.

well my granddaughters have grown up at WDW .. they sure wouldnt understand not getting to go! My god we wouldnt ever go without them .. even if barbie doesnt remember the first time she hugged "her mickey" I have it on tape ..and even with out that tape .. I remember that smile ..it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Or when her sister saw dumbo for the first time and started to shout "my dumbo my dumbo" yes ..we stood in line for about 2 hours in the sun ( it was long before they put up that shade ) because she had to ride dumb .. for years my granddaughters did not understand that not everyone goes to WDW. I wont say that WDW has anything to do with it ..but both of them are Straight A honor roll students .. and have been since they started school. The are both praised all the time by their teachers. They are both well advanced in thier classes .. the oldest has even been teaching one of her teachers and the class Japanese which she learned on her own, with no help. the youngest who is 10 was chosen out of her whole school to be a real bank teller in connection with a local bank that it helping kids learn the value of saving money. The both have thier own savings accounts with goals. they both believe they can do and be anything they want to be. Maybe its not because they have been going to WDW since they were babies ..but I sure know it didnt hurt. but I do have to admit ..if your going to bring a child and then yell at them when they are cranky or mistreat them in any way then please dont bring your child to this happy place .. too many times I have seen parents shouting at their children and losing thier tempers with them, I have seen parents teach thier children that its ok to push and shove, that its ok to run and maybe knock an other child down to get to the best seat. I have seen parent cussing CM's in front of their children.. lovely lessons on how to deal with fustration huh. Sometimes its the parents that need the nap and time out

I doubt that going to Disney got my daughter into National Honor Society or made her a Merit Scholar, but as you say, it didn't hurt! ;)

What does this have to do with taking naps?

I see too many childern at WDW being treated like cargo and its a shame that it happens. If you want to bring you childern to WDW at a young age thats your choice. But I believe that they will enjoy it more when older. That is my opinion. Please respect that.

A great time to let the kids take a nap would be around 12pm. The parks do close early in December but with not a lot of people in attendence before the X-mas holiday you will still have plenty of time to catch all the good stuff.
