Old Tiki Room preshow???

Hey all I only got a chance to visit the WDW Tiki Room once before the change over (please don't turn this into Under New bashing topic). What was the pre-show before the agent one now? If anyone has a video or audio of it I would love to have a copy of that!!!!!

It was some kind of polynesian clock theme - tick tock tick tock with some jokes built in. It was about 5 minutes long. It is available 'out there'. I would post it here, but I don't know the forum rules about that so I better go read the rules first.

There two birds outside that spun out from fountain in the wall. I have only done the new version once but I thought that part did not change but I could be wrong.

I've often thought about this, I can't for the life of me remember what was there before. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the Barker Bird, though. I only recently learned it existed, and its speel clearly asks you to "get your tickets here". So he was around when the letter system was still used.

I didn't know that that WDW had a Barker Bird???? I know the one at DL used to stop traffic so they took it out but never heard anything about one there. I am sure it used the same two birds as the ones now, but I know it was not the show that it is now. If anyone has any info I would love to read up on this one.

Well, maybe WDW didn't. I can see how I messed things up. I know DL had it, I just assumed WDW had one as well. Kinda like that genie's lamp at Adventureland. Only DL had one or did WDW have one as well?

Walt Disney World DID have a Barker Bird! Except it wasn't a Jose parrot, but more of a toucan (later redressed with touristy suits).

If I recall correctly, the original preshow featured the same exact preshow style with two birds. It has changed, however, as the birds never spoke about Iago or Zazu from 1971-1997. ;)

I only enter the Tiki Room through the exit for a few minutes whenever I have a chance, just to say "Hi" to my bird pals, hoping one day a new glory can come. . .

Grizz,
Did you ever think of going to work for Disney and replacing Mr. Eisner?
You have the best ideas and like to stick to the original 'Disney' traditions. However, you still leave room for progress. You would have my vote. :king:

I should try that...

Well, a common misconception about me is that I want to "revert back to 1984" and want things "exactly how they were." But would that be just as foolish? I ultimately strive for quality, for high investment (at least in Disney) yields high long-term profits and the REAL bottom line -- the Disney name! It's not that I want "Horizons back!" It's that I want the spirit of Walt Disney's dreaming and doing, detail, song, emotion, and heart in new attractions that can only make the original ideas better. The newest attractions just don't match up, and there are obvious reasons for this.

Quick example for long term investment to bring out ultimate success: Splash Mountain. This ride will always be around; the thrill factor (flume) is only part of it. Even Mission Space will eventually have to go (as the only true basis for this attraction is technology), but investment in the ultimate story traditions (whether in song, animatronics, or detail) is one of the big things. This brings new life to the parks - as well as trust in the company from all fans.

You'll see more on this at the upcoming D-Army "experience." But hey, if you'll vote a bear in over Eisner, well, what should that say about or Eisney?? :D ;)

Whoops, back on subject, stand outside the EXIT sign for the Enchanted Tiki Room, be polite, and wait for guests to leave if you intend to prowl around. It had been about three years since I last saw the birds, and gosh, was it great to go in there. I just can't stand the new show, but I will respect the original poster's wishes and not bring this into debate. :)

I honestly didn't think the current pre-show would last this long after Phil Hartman killed himself. :(

Birth Name: Philip Edward Hartmann
Date of death: May 28, 1998
Cause of death: Murder (by addict wife, Brynn Hartman.

He was killed by his wife. I did not know though he did the pre-show now. I only saw the new version once and don't remember if we saw the pre-show or walked right on in.

Yep, Phil Hartman and Don Rickles are the voices of William and Morris. Of course, William and Morris is a huge Hollywood talent agency, just in case some of you didn't know that.

Oh yes, my apologies...he didn't kill himself. He was killed by his wife. A very sad incident, indeed. Thanks for the correction. :)

Thanks I will be checking out on our next trip. My daughter keeps listening to some mp3s that I have an the original theme song is one of them. I am sure she will be ok with the new version as she has never seen the old one. It kills me though.

Sorry, not trying to upset the apple cart that is this thread....

Just in case you or your daughter happens to like the new song, it is on the 2004 WDW Official Soundtrack. I know you wanted to hear the Cinderella Surprise Celebration which is also on that CD. I just received my copy in the mail yesterday as I forgot to buy it when I was there at the beginning of the month, and I'm sure glad I called and ordered it, it's my new favorite.

Thanks I will look into getting it. She is very into Disney right now. We listen to a CD now in the car of a bunch of WDW attraction songs and sing along. I mean every day. Also when at home I have a ton of Disney stuff on my iPod and I play it through my stereo. We have speakers on our back deck so we can sit and eat dinner out there. Our neighbors must think we are nuts, sitting out back singing A Pirates Life for Me (and very into it I might add).

I am so glad she is into it as I am assuring many, many, many WDW trips.

Thanks again for the info!
