Tiki Room On High Alert!

According to Al Lutz over at miceage.com, the rehab of the Tiki Room is just that...a rehab. It will not involve major story changes and definetly will not involve changing it to the New Management version. Just a much needed sprucing up of the building and show (and from what Matt said...the animatronics too :) )

Matt Oiumet has supposedly taken a lot of time to just walk around the resort since he got there and was initially unhappy with what he saw in the upkeep in the park. In fact, according to Al, the press event for the announcment of the 50th plans has been moved once again to July now for two reasons. One, to have enough time to get the park back into the shape that it should be (the recent painting initiative..from buildings to railings is a testament to that and Matt replaced almost all the people who worked under Cynthia with his "own" people that seem to have the same beliefs about the look of the parks and need for better upkeep :sohappy: ) and second, to have enough time to re-do Cynthia Harris's rather lackluster plans for the 50th and make them into something amazing and grand...as they should've been.

Ok, as the minority who enjoys TR:UNM, I think it's important to keep Disneyland's Tiki Room original. It was one of Walt's favourites, and it would be a huge disappointment to this Disney fan if that one's changed too. I think it's important to keep the original original...know what I mean?

Poor Walt...

The guy isn't pushing up daisies, he's pushing up manure!

He built an empire based on fundemental beliefs, and created attractions that every family member could enjoy, albeit all on different levels (and therein lies the beauty), and now these knucklenoses decide, "Well, this attraction needs updating!! Let's stick "Lilo and Staple" in it and all will be good!"

That's a band-aid folks. Doesn't work long term. They'll find out with the current butchering of Alien Encounter.

Tiki room wasn't drawing large crowds in D-world.

So What?

It still isn't.

But now, it's just a lame attraction. At least with the original, parents could say to kids "this is what I loved when I was your age!! (instant connection with your kid).

If disnneyland changes tiki to the wdw version...good luck!

A brief anecdote:

In july I went to wdw with two of my buds (one who has NEVER been there)!

We are all in our 30's, left the ladies at home, and went off for 4 days. Anyway, as a big disneyhead, as was friend #2, we enjoyed watching friend #3 see all the stuff for the first time!!

"No Way!!! Space Mountain!! FINALLY!!!!

We went to the tiki room because A.) I wanted to. and B.) it started raining (sound familiar?)

That said, friend #3 was totally digging it! The pre-show, the theater, the start of the show..."in the tiki, tiki, tiki room!! Etc..."

Then that buttmunch from alladin shows up.

Look. I liked alladin. Last disney flick I did enjoy. But this guy DOESN'T BELONG here! It's so plainfully obvious!

I'm glad I'll be able to see the original Tiki again! And I'll film every minute of it!

Here's hoping they don't make the same mistake twice.

All the best,

-Sharkster

Looks like I'm a minority too. But I agree with BigNorm's posting to keep the original as Walt designed it.

While it does need a major rehab, I wouldn't mind a show change such as the WDW version. While I love the original, the WDW version is much faster paced and the funnier. I sometimes find myself wanting to drift off to sleep in the DL version (slow pacing).

I think the AAs need some serious updating, too. They make a lot of "clicking" noises when their beaks and things move up and down, which is very distracting, and I've never noticed it at WDW. And maybe some more fun effects or something. Like, the part with just the fountain gets kinda old after a while.

While my main knowledge of Matt O. comes from here and Miceage and Mouseplanet, I have to say so far i am impressed with the guy. He knows merchandise is important but that people come to Disney for the rides, for fun, for the i know its corny but magic; if he can really pull off the 50th anniversary i think CM's might have one less Exec. to moan about, as for the Tiki bird show my guess is that it will be different but not UNM i like the tiki show but i agree it does need some sprucing up

Good news on the tiki room front, according to mouseplanet.com (quite a reliable site if i do say so) Tiki room is going under rehab for only two months and i do beleive that is scarcely enough time to get the new management show into the tiki room, so i think we can all breathe a little easier now:sohappy:
