GOOD MORNING ALL,

PLEASE BE KIND, AM NEW TO THE BOARD, AND HAVE NEVER BEEN TO WDW BEFORE, BUT THAT WILL BE CORRECTED IN FEBRUARY... :sohappy: ..I AM TAKING MY FAMILY TO WDW IN FEBRUARY....ALREADY BOOKED, AND WILL BE STAYING AT AK....THIS IS HOW I WANTED TO CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY WITH MY FAMILY, AND IT WAS THEIR SURPRISE CHRISTMAS GIFT!!!

MY QUESTION IS WHEN STAYING A WDW HOTEL....IS YOUR ROOM CARD, (WHICH I IMAGINE IS LIKE A CREDIT CARD) YOUR PARK TICKET, OR IS IT SOMETHING ELSE? IF IT IS PAPER, AND GETS WET ON WATER RIDES WHAT PROBLEM IS IT TO GET IT REPLACED? WHAT IS THE BEST SECURE WAY TO CARRY IT WITHOUT LOOSING THE TICKET, SINCE I AM UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT YOU MUST PRODUCE IT FREQUENTLY AT THE PARK. SINCE THERE WILL BE 6 ADULTS AND 7 CHILDREN, THAT ADDS UP TO A LOT OF TICKETS!!!

ANY HELP OR TIPS ARE WELCOME,

THANKS,

BABAMICKEY,

I believe the room card itself is hard, like a credit card. I wish the annual passes were plastic like they used to be. But biometrics came along, and the need for something plastic went away. You use your fingerprints now, so no one else can use the pass but yourself, and yourself alone. So if you lose the pass, you can just go to a ticket (booth?) and get another one.
Enough with my rambling! I totally think that the room cards are plastic.

I believe that the room keys are plastic, when we first got our Anual Passes they were plastic aswell but have now be changed for the more cheaper method of paer which is a shame, plastic ones stay nice for longer.

I allways stay in my house in the area and never had the chance to stay on site before, but from when being at the ticket entrance I have seen a number of people with plastic tickets which I would guess are the room keys and park entrance tickets combined.

If you by your tickets at the resort they will be plastic even if you do not have them put on your room key. At the parks they will be paper. However it is not simply paper it is a tyvek/mylar combo thing. It is very durable. I have had my AP for over 8 months and have used it about 80 times and it is still in perfect shape. Personaly I prefer the paper tickets because a stack of them takes up much less space in your wallet than a stack of plastic.

Do not worry if your paper pass gets wet. Two years ago we had annual passes that were paper. Five times during the trip when the AP was first activated, my niece had to get her pass replaced for various reasons. A couple of examples were:
1.) She had the pass next to her cell phone battery in her cell phone wallet which de-magnetized the strip. (that's what Disney told us must have happened)
2.) She had the pass in her pocket of swim shorts and jumped into the pool.

I don't remember the other things that happened but it became a contest to where we would guess which character would be on Amanda's pass this time.

What I'm trying to say is don't worry about your pass getting wet, ripped etc., just go to guest services with a picture ID and they will get you another one right away.

If you bought a package deal from a travel agency, such as AAA or from Disney travel over the phone or internet, then your room key card will also be your park passes and will be a plastic card the size of a credit card. You will be given these when you check into the hotel. If you buy park passes separately from a package, from the Disney store for example, they will be of the paper variety and you will have to carry both the plastic room key card and the paper park pass card.

So the answer to your question depends on your type of reservation.

The room keys are plastic (like a credit card) and each persons key will have their name on it. Your tickets will be a coated paper, but can handle water rides (such as splash) with out worry. What I do is to use a snack size zip-lock bag to keep our tickets in. This along with the ticket holder (tri-fold coated paper holder) keeps our tickets in one place and works well to keep our fast pasess dry and safe also. I hope that you have a great birthday and a wonderful trip, it sounds like you will have large group going which should make it even more fun.

If you bought your tickets as part of a package, your resort ID will also be your theme park pass.

If you did not buy your tickets as part of a package and thus have paper tickets, you can have the concierge desk transfer the unused days from your paper ticket to your resort ID so you only need one card for the entire trip. One caveat is that this is not possible for AP's. I visited WDW in early December and did this.

Okay my family ordered out tickets online through AAA, so when we check into our hotel we will recieve our room keys and our tickes will be on those OR will we recieve a seperate also plastic card that is our ticket OR will we recieve the newer paper like tickets?

I believe if you ordered only tickets from AAA than AAA will be mailing you your tickets. Only if you booked a package will the tickets be on your room key. We ordered directly through Disney so our key, tickets and dining were all on our room keys.

I surprised my family with a trip to WDW on Christmas day too! It went really well, and we leave in two weeks. We got our passes in the mail yesterday and they were plastic. The room keys will be different from your pass and we use packs on all of our trips. It ensures that everything that you need, as far as passes, sunglasses, etc... will be on you at all times. Have a nice trip!

What a wonderful Christmas gift/surprise!! :sohappy: Please be sure to post the board as soon as you return from your trip. I always love reading posts from first-timers and their expressions of awe/amazement of the parks! Makes me re-live my first WDW trip all over again!! :)

Another benefit of your plastic room key is to put a credit card linked to that card and then you can carry just that to pay for everything you do at WDW. Food, gift shops, etc. You really wont need to carry any other cards with you.

The only down side is if you are trying to keep track of how much you have spent, then the lack of cash in your pocket is easier to keep track of when to cut the kids off. But hey its a vacation and your first WDW visit...who cares how much money you spend...you have the rest of your life to pay it off!

Take advantage of this site and www.allearsnet.com to plan out everything to maximize your time. Have fun...nothing like you first time!:D
