Ticket question...

Please help with a dining / ticket question...

I have a ticket question. I'm planning 2 trips, each for 5 days at the parks. I plan on buying 10 day passes with no expiration for those trips. I'd also like to buy the meal plan. On the first trip, I'll stay off-site with friends. On the second trip, I'll stay on-site. My question is this - can I get the meal plan to use on both trips, or is it associated only with staying on-site which would mean I couldn't use it for the first trip? If the latter is the case, and I stay on-site for say 5 days, could I use just buy it for 5 days or would I have to get it for 10 since the passes are 10-day passes? Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Question: How long between these two trips? Because the 10 day noX ticket expires 14 days after first use.

Meal Plan - this is linked with your Resort Stay. You get the package for each night stay. (You have to purchase at least one ticket per person in the room to get the option of the Dining Plan)

Option 1: You could purchase one 5 day ticket while off site and then purchase a MYW Package with a 5-day ticket and the dining plan for each night of stay. (Everyone in your room will have to be on the same package.)

Option 2: Or you could purchase an Annual Pass. With this pass your get discounts (and maybe even on your room) for lots of different stuff. Also you could purchase a Dining Plan for $50/year that would give you 20% off most restaurants in and around the parks. This you could use for both trips.

Hope this helps - I will try to throw some numbers together!

I'll admit my ignorance of what the "meal plan" is, and invite further information, but Maple Leaf Tickets, through which the 10-day "Magic Your Way" ticket is available, advises that the 10-day ticket without expiration does not expire 14 days after first use, but remains valid until all 14 days are used.

The trips are Nov 05 and fall 06. Purchasing separate tickets isn't really an option because of the economics of buying 10-day passes. Annual passes aren't really an option because of economics also, i.e. all we need for both trips is 10 total days and a 10-day pass is less than an annual pass.

Can we simply have the dining option for the second trip without buying separate passes for that trip?

O'Yea! Welcome to the Boards!

Here are some numbers:

1 day ticket $ 63.63
5 day ticket $ 205.55
10 day ticket $ 221.52
NoX option +$ 106.50

AP $ 420.68

If you bought the 10 day you would have to use it all up 14 days after first use. If you did this then when you come to stay on site get your room with the Dining Plan and a one day pass (because you gotta purchase at least one ticket). So now you would have 11 days of tickets that will go bad 14 days after first use! (total ticket amount would be about $285) plus your room and the Dining Plan ($35/adult per night)

The AP purchase for the whole trip would cost $420 (only about $136 difference) and if you get a room discount it may pay for itself! Depends on when you go and where you stay) Also you could get the Dining Plan for the AP for an additional $50 and save 20% on your meals at most restaurants in and around WDW)

According to all that I have read on the Base Ticket is that they all expire 14 days after first use. I will look at the Maple Site in a little while.

Back to the 10 day ticket. Now that I know your trip dates you will have to purchase the No Expiration option if you want to use them in the Fall of 2006.
Price will be Base Ticket 10 day = $221.52 + $106.50 (NoX option) = $328
When you balance that with the AP the difference is about $93. You will probably save that from the discounts you can get. Note: certain discounts that come with the restaurant portion of the $50 AP Dining are not allowed on holidays.

If you can't do this then the One 5day Base ticket is your best way for know.

All Magic Your Way tickets expire 14 days from first used unless the "No Expiration" option is purchased.

This means if you purchase a 10 day Magic Your Way Ticket with the Magic Plus Pack you must used all 10 theme park days, and all 5 plus visits to the "other destinations" with-in a 14 day period. If you add the "No Expiration" option, then all entitlements on the ticket are good forever.

Note that all Disney tickets are non-refundable, and non-transferable (the same guest must use all days and entitlements)
If a child (age 3-9) purchases a Magic Your Way ticket with the "No Expiration" option, the child may continue to use the ticket until all entitlements are used, even after they turn ten years old. The ticket does not need to be upgraded.

"Other destinations" = Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Pleasure Island, DisneyQuest, Wide World of Sports Complex

The Disney Dining Plan is not a ticket option, it is part of a Walt Disney Travel Company Vacation Package. This package includes:
Accommodations at a Disney Resort
A Magic Your Way Ticket of your choice
1 Table Service meal, 1 Counter Service meal, and 1 snack per person (age 3+) per night of your stay.
*All guest in the room must be on the same package and ticket options.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Sorry Brianna19901

I think I misread your initial post! So you are going to purchase a 10 day base ticket with the "No Expiration Option", is that correct? If so then that would be about $328. I would definitely go AP for about $96 more. Start saving those Aluminum Cans and selling that old underwear to raise the $$$!

Also, there have been many posts on the AP rate/discounts. You will come out better this way I believe!

But in order to get the Dining Plan you will have to purchase at least one ticket per person in the room, Yes.

I would get the no expiration option (initial post). I didnt' know if I would be able to save enough to justify the extra cost of an AP. I'll look into some posts on that.

As for the dining plan question, I understand that it is part of the room package and not the ticket. My only question is this: Does it matter what kind of ticket you have to take advantage of the dining plan. More specifically, can I book a room for X nights, get the dining plan for those X nights, and use whatever tickets I have to get into the parks to take advantage of the plan, whether they are MYW, AP, old park hopper, or other?

And a related question, not to try to complicate things:

Say I want to say on property for 8 days and only spend 5 at the parks, while purchasing the dining plan. Since you must have the dining plan for the same number of days as the length of stay, can you split the reservation so you don't lose out of the plan? In my case, buy a 5 night stay and a 3 night stay, getting the dining plan for the 5 nights and nothing for the 3 nights. And if you do that, I assume you must use all dining plan coupons in the 5 days? Or would I have 8 days? I apologize for all of the different things I don't understand.

When you book your resort with the Dining Plan you must purchase at least one base ticket. All your other ticket types can be used however you want, they have no connection with your room. So you will have to fork out an additional 60+ dollars to get the one ticket which enables you to get the Dining Plan (which is $35/adult and $10/child 3-11).

There is much to get confused about! Questions are good, especially when your money is on the line! So keep asking. There are many people on this site that have a vast knowledge on DISNEY. Anyway, Yes you can split your stay but I believe that would require you to check out then back in.

I am not sure I understand the part about

You will need to purchase food each day of your stay or are you wanting to try and spread out your Dining Plan meals? I believe when your resort stay is up then the extras on the Dining Plan are done as well. Everything is on your Room Key: Room entry, Dining plan meals, ticket. So I believe you would not be able to use your Dining Plan for the eight days.

I think you should definitely look into the AP like you said and all other people traveling with you could get the regular base tickets. You only need one AP to get discounts. For an 8 night stay, if room discounts are available, you could save about $175 on a value resort and more at other resorts.

Also, Pam at Kingdom Consultants is an excellent resource for booking your trip and finding the best value for your money!

Brianna, about splitting your stay...

You do realize that you can use the dining plan outside the parks, right? So you could enjoy 8 days of food even if you are only doing 5 days of parks.

As for splitting the reserv - I don't know about that but I think leftover meals expire on midnight of the day you leave. So you wouldn't be able to stretch 5 days of meals over 8 days.

I'll be happy to help here...

10 days is the maximum number of days on a MYW ticket. Those wanting more then ten days should consider an Annual Pass.

And DisneyMarg is correct, when on the Magic Your Way Package Plus Dinning all unused meal entitlements expire at midnight on the check-out date of the package.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:
