Tiana's Restaurant

I just saw Princess and the Frog and I was thinking that a themed table service restaurant based off the movie would be great in Liberty Square or the American Adventure. In the movie, Tiana dreams of opening up her restaurant. I'm pretty sure its called "Tiana's Place" in the movie, if so it would fit in perfectly in either of the aforementioned locations. What do you guys think?

I love the idea of a Tiana restaurant, but I'm not sure what 1920's Jazz Age New Orleans has to do with 1780's Colonial America.

I could easily see such a restaurant taking over Cafe' Orleans or The French Market in New Orleans Square at Disneyland, or maybe the food court in WDW's Port Orleans resort.

But having a jazzy 1920's themed New Orleans restaurant in the 18th Century themed Colonial America of Liberty Square or American Adventure? I'm not seeing it. :animwink:

If it has the same menu as the Blue Bayou in Disneyland I'd be all for it.

Not to be a wet blanket, but Liberty Square already has a great themed restaurant (not to mention, I would also love to know how 1920's Jazz Age New Orleans has anything to do with 1780's Colonial America.

I agree this would be a good location. Port Orleans french quarters need a sit down Restaurant since it only has a food court and is a moderate hotel.

I ask the same question every time I see the characters parading down the street and boarding the riverboat. :brick:

The ideal location for just such a restaurant would indeed be Port Orleans French Quarter, though instead of the food court (counter-serivice), I'd much prefer it take over the long-shuttered Bonfamille's Cafe location. As someone already pointed out, with Bonfamille's closure Port Orleans (French Quarter) is the only moderate resort without a table-service restaurant (Riverside is too far away).

IMHO, the Empress Lilly would be the perfect fit. Re-do the Empress Room as the Princess Room, make the Fisherman's Deck Tiana's Restaurant, and the Steerman's Quarters as Naveen's Place. The old Starboard lounge could become Facillier's Nook, and the Baton Rouge Lounge Louis' Lounge. Then dust off that old concept that would have given PI a New Orleans style, and, oh wait it's all Third Party Island now. Never mind.

Agreed 100% that the Empress Lilly makeover would be perfect. :)

However (and this is not a criticism), the last thing the "Island" needs is another back story to get locked into. Leave themed lands for theme parks. This offers DTD the flexibility to change as retailers change and tastes change. IMO.

I agree with the location of it being on the Empress Lily. I feel that would be more immersive then just redoing the food court at Port Orleans French Quarter, and would be much more accessible to all guests on property. And by the way the movie was great. Worthy of at least a high quality restaurant. The soundtrack was great (Randy Newman never fails) and the characters were awesome. Dr. Facilier is an amazing villain, comparable to that of Hades, Scar, and Ursula. Disney finally went back to their tradition of telling a great story. However the reason I suggested those two earlier locations (neither as good as the empress lily idea) was because the American Adventure is one of the few World Showcase pavilions to lack table service quality dining. Please don't tell me cheeseburgers fit in to 1780's colonial america. I also suggested Liberty Square because the Magic Kingdom lacks table service restaurants in quantity, not quality as in in the case of American Adventure. However I stand corrected that their are theming issues and that the empress lily would be a perfect location.

A) On the 1 to 10 scale, how was the movie?? ....and B) Not to shoot down your idea, but Port Orleans French Quarter would thee ideal place for a character meal/movie tie-in spot.

By the way forgot to answer part one of your questions. I'd rate the movie as at least an 8.75 out of 10, probably closer to 9. The characters are really lovable. Dr. facilier is one of the greatest Disney Villains, comparable to Scar, Hades, and Ursula. I'd say he is even more hatable than Hades. Louis the alligator and Mama Odie are great and very funny. As a whole the characters make the movie, and the story is great. You never feel unconnected to the story and the soundtrack by Randy Newman really moves you as you progress through the story. Disney's has not made film of this quality since the Little Mermaid and Lion King.

I think theme at DTD is important.
The original Village had light theming. PI has a very extensive backstory and medium theming to that backstory. West Side has zilch.

The orignal Village could be said to portray a smalltown center. The addition of WOD and McD’s fit in well, although WOD’s height is somewhat excessive compared to the original buildings. Rainforrest does not blend as well as the Village Restaurant it replaced, but it’s out of the way location does not disrupt the over all feel of the Village.

The PI backstory has never “locked” Disney into anything. The backstory theming really only consisted of the descriptve plaques at various locations. As venues changed the plaques were slowly disarded, one by one. Besides, no matter how PI changes, themed or not, the plaques are no more than markers of historical interest.

Then there’s the West Side. No overall theme, no backstory, no continuity, no soul. IMHO, it has no more than an industrial Bauhaus look and feel. Bulldoze it tomorrow and I’ll raise a glass to progress.
