Thunder to get Air Conditioning?

On Mouseplanet, it said that Big Thunder Mountain is getting AC in the que building. I did not hear this before, so I wanted to know if it is true. AC is much needed here because I think we all know how hot it can get in there.

One problem at WDW are those queue lines outside a building with no AC...it can get pretty hot in the summer and I think if anything AC will be a definite plus...now if only they can get all their new attractions to have big queue lines inside buildings. M:S queue line is what should be done....while AE's is what shouldn't...but then again thats just my opinion.

Lets see what happens...

Sometimes I think that big queue lines inside actually hide the length of the line and cause more people to join; whereas, the outside lines sometimes scare people away....

So, there are benefits to both.

I wonder how they will close in the building area. I'm sure they'll do it in a tasteful charming way, I hope! I hope that they don't wall of the building without windows to still see out.

I hope this happens. I always dread waiting in that line when it's super HOT!

I doubt they will close it to make it an indoor wait. I am sure they add it in there, like the way Splash Mountain has AC. You know, it shoots out in certain areas and you only hope to get stuck right under it while you wait. LOL That's what I think....

I was thinking the same thing GrumpysGal. It would probably be quite the adventure and expendature to inclose BTMRR's queue.

I didnt go to both links, so I dunno if this was mentioned, but, they might just ac the load/unload area, and let it flow up to the ramp. They could also put it in the position where the CM collects the FP's, so, it flows to different places

The AC would flow up the ramp? (Doesn't heat rise?)

Therefore it would actually stay in the load/unload area, and not escape as quickly as you might think--only place it would escape to would be the opening where the trains return. All they would need to solve that and any small loss of air at the ramp would be to have an A/C blower completely over each of those openings, blowing air down to create basically a wall of air--like those things they have over doors in some of the restaurants, that turn on as the door opens. This system would actually make the most sense to me...in the upstairs area, they'd have to put those blowers in a lot more areas...or put windows in. It would cost quite a bit of money to keep it cool there...granted the cool air would flow down the ramp and keep the load-unload station cool...so I dunno haha...I guess it'd work both ways :)

Actually, heat does not necessarily rise. Heat follows cold. Ask any HVAC man and he will tell you that The warm air is pulled toward the cool air.

AC

I am sure it will be like the air on Splash Mountain. They will have vents with cold air blowing with fans dispersing the air as much as possible. Some air is better than no air.

Isn't the BTMRR queue outside? So does this mean that they will be pumping cold air outside? I'm confused...

Josh since no one responeded to your post here you go.....it is outside a lil bit then inside for most of it. It is actaully a great queue in terms of themeing and such. As well as having a great view of the gysers out the back windows.

Like Kyle said they will probally use some sort of blower at the Doors. Think of the Contemp, where the Monorails enter In/Out, you pass through a blower system so the Cold air stays in the Concourse and does not go outside

I personally would be happy with the mister fans. I think that its a real good idea.

I would much rather prefer AC but i dont think it would work that well, unless they close in the building and if they do that it would take away form the theming

If they do in fact and succesfully AC the outside queue area for Thunder mountain, I plead to Disney to do the same for the outside queue areas at AK. Especially the safari line.

Um, don't think so. Warm air is lighter than cold air and therefore rises. Heavy cold air sinks.

All the buildings I know of that have seperate vents for heat and air have the air vents in the cealing and the heat vents in the floor due to the above.

Closing in for AC

You don't actually have to enclose the que to provide the AC. If anyone has been around long enough to recall the 20K Leagues que which was under a canopy the duct work provided cooling streams of air every ten (?) or so feet. You were glad to get to that spot and always lingered at bit before you moved on but it was enough to give some relief to Orlando's July & August heat.

It wasn't what you'd think of as traditional AC but was a stream of air that was a few degrees cooler than what you had to put up with in line. Seems like I read somewhere it was referred to as "outside air conditioning."

Since WDW is generating their own power with the jet engines backstage the cost factor wouldn't be as high as if supplied by Flordia Power and Water.
