Thread page counts incorrect?

Why is it that the number of pages in a thread is always one or two pages more (the part where you can click on a given page) than it really is? For instance, if you click on a thread and it says it has 5 pages, it really only has 3 pages and clicking on 4 or 5, takes you to the same page as clicking on 3?

Its been a long standing bug caused by quite a few factors. No timeline on a fix yet.

The post count isn't always accurate either. And the "first unread post" link is spotty at best.

The cause of weird page counts appears to be deleted posts. The forum software counts the total posts to the thread regardless of whether they've been deleted or not. So posts deleted by the poster or by Mods will increase the page count beyond the actual number of pages that are there in reality.

It's most notable when only a few posts have been deleted, then the count is sometimes right and sometimes wrong depending how many posts are on the "last" page.
