Thoughts on the Christmas Parade

Why would they talk about FLE when its not even going to be done by Christmas of 2011? What advertise for something that isn't there for guests to enjoy?

You must have missed the DCA part as they were mentioning attractions for up to 2012..As many rides aren't done.

I thought the hosts sucked as usual. At least it wasn't Regis and Kelly. The only thing that made it enjoyable was we were actually watching a program taped at WDW. It would have been really cool to have Demi Lovato on and have her freak out during a song. Punch a dancer or two......

I too agree it's a big commercial. But who cares. They've got me hooked so I watch it. Almost anything that shows the parks in some way I'll usually watch.

I'm with you crimson. And what's up with the actress from glee. She's not on a Disney owned show. Yet she's performing and in my opinion not very good.

Wow, she was one of the best performances of the entire show, her voice is amazing.

And let me get this straight, people complain that they're promoting Disney Channel stars...and then people complain when someone not affiliated with Disney (Amber Riley) performs?

Year after year they make it worse.

First the editing, it looks like it was edited by people who don't even have an idea of where to put the shots and how to use them. Also, what's up with the "float cam" and the "guest cam"??? It just makes it terrible, c'mon its Disney, it must be a professional work and with details. These "cams" just don't make any sense to me.

Same with Disney Channel stars, again? Every year Disney promotes a new girl to sing on the parade, last year was Ms Hanna, this year Debby Ryans. Next year what? A new TV show starring another girl that also sings?

Where is Regis and Kelly? Last year Regis was in recent surgery, so it was ok that they not put him in. But what happened this year?

I've been watching this parade for not too many years, but since 2006 this has been the worst I've ever seen.

Bring back WALT DISNEY WORLD CHRISTMAS DAY PARADE, not Disney Parks. Sorry Disneyland, you may be the original, but this was WDW idea.

First off, I want to say that Kelly Ripa did ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE last year. In many parts, it was just unbearable.

I was expecting something about the Fantasyland expansion, but not thinking anything new would show up--it would've been cool to see some FLE stuff on TV. It did bug me a little how they promoted three DCA attractions--Little Mermaid, Carsland, and World of Color, while there wasn't anything about new stuff @ WDW--if I recall.

The writing as usual is quite cheesy anyway, so I wasn't as bothered as I was w/ the writing as last year--Kelly. I don't hate Seacrest or Nick Cannnon, but they could pick better. Ryan probably getting too much of the same-old-same-old every year. Oh, but it was his first time to host in WDW!!! Ahhh!!!--....not exciting :ROFLOL:

From when Debby Ryan came up to "sing" until the end of what some might call a performance, my jaw was dropped and my eyes just drooped--terrible. She needs to go. I want to see more Cast Members like in the old video...

I was also puzzled why the Glee star was there--Fox show, not ABC or anything Disney related. She's good, but I didn't think she belonged.

10 year old Opra girl--what the heck??? that shocked and plain-out annoyed me!

Loved the Disney commercials about "letting the memories begin". Those always make me happy to see home videos of other kids getting surprised.

The old 1986 WDW Christmas Day Parade video, I might add, rocked! Very cool of you to find that!! Wish it was still like that...!!!

I'm curious. I hear a lot of complaining and griping, which I am fine with (when appropriate), but have any of you got any ideas for what to do instead? For example, I think it would be better to take all of the Disney Channel Stars and pack 'em on the Disney Channel float. Have them do one performance together and then be done with them for the rest of the parade.

That actually is a great idea!!!!!

I thought the first "memories" take away with the little girl in the back seat of the car looked so fake. The rest of them looked real and I'm not sure why they would use the worst one first other than it might not last in your memory after the rest of them which looked real and unscripted. Other than that glad to see that they appeared to use all new footage this year and did not bring in old parade footage to fill in as in years past.

The first did seem pretty fake, gonna have to agree on that one. The girl was like "oh, I'm so happy!, etc." It was all sweet and stuff, but it just seemed kinda scripted!

Well thank you!

I also don't get why people are complaining about the guest cams and float cams. The float cams were a little stupid on characters like Woody. It was an extreme closeup of the same expression. :ROFLOL:But they would provide interesting shots of face characters, like the pixie hollow float. As for the guest cams, I thought they were a good idea that was well executed. It really allowed for the television audience to get a vibe for the energy of the crowd through the television. If anything those different angles broke the boring shots of the typical crane shot, stage shot, street shot.:snore:

I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one. I'm a bit of a pessimist so sometimes I wonder about my perspective. :ROFLOL:

I loved that one. It was so cheesy. I literally laughed at loud at the girls quote. She was like, "You know what they say at Disney. Your dreams may not always come true, but sometimes they do." Typical little kid nonsensical quote that doesn't really make sense.

The different camera angles were, yes, cool perspectives. The Woody one, as you mentioned, was kinda pointless--but it was short. The crowd cam was believable to me. I liked both.

I wouldn't say the comment was pessimistic, it's just your opinion and view on things. I agreed w/ you on it and I wouldn't call myself a pessimist. Actually, I think I try to be optimistic a/b most things(beside the point).

hahahaha that comment was pretty out there. I laughed, too!

If we take a step back and look at the reason many were not impressed this year with the christmas day parade it may be due to the fact that nothing was really new this year, and nothing really new to WDW only in the coming year. Star Tours and Little Mermaid are just clones from what California is getting.

The only thing they really could of mentioned that WDW is getting would be the Be Our Guest Resturant and the art and animation resort hotel and I doubt they felt they had a lot to sell the general public with that concept, at least right now enough to use their parade time for.

lmao at the posts about the 1st little girl memory, I was thinking the same thing when I watched it, like was she serious? I know little girls try to be cute sometimes but that just seemed so obviously fake to me. I find it really funny that I wasnt the only one who thought that.

As for the parade. Sigh. The parades suck, they get worse every year, they used to be magical! I dont find them magical at all anymore. I agree with all the posts about the disney channel stars. And I also agree with the posts about ryan and nick, seriously whoever decided that ryan seacrest and nick cannon should host should be shot. I hate how they aim to the tween audience as well. I dont like how its disney parks, I mean if you want to air a seperate parade for california residents (you know the majority of disneyland's guests) then go right ahead but the rest of the country goes to disneyworld for their disney vacation, or atleast that was the way it was marketed up until a few years ago.

Theres no disney songs! there used to be disney songs as well as christmas songs. They try to be too "hip" and "cool". They can be corny and cheesy, thats fine, but when they try to be hip, I see it as a fail. I miss the Walt disney world christmas day parade, it was great when regis and kathy lee hosted, it was alright when regis and kelly hosted, but once ryan stepped in it became something different and very unlikeable to me.

I realize theres not alot going on in wdw right now so I can understand not having alot to showcase, but still, THIS was the resort they needed to market! THIS was the resort that was hurting, dl doesnt need marketing (wasnt it said that something like 90% of its visitors were locals?) Well if thats the case then they wont be hurting for guests anytime soon, wdw on the other hand needed as much publicity as possible!

I miss how they used to take us behind the scenes, show us the rides and attractions, I didnt see 1 ride on the parade this year.

Bottom line, I hate the disney parks parade, and I really miss the wdw parade. I miss the disney of my youth period!

I really didn't care for it this year. Some of the scripting made me cringe. I was hoping to see something more about Star Tours II, but alas. This year was a stinker. The biggest improvement was a lack of Kelly Rippa? and her Botox injected face.

I didn't realize or hear mention until today that Hawaii will have Disney characters. At least Mickey and Minnie. I thought (hoping) they were going to treat Hawaii like Adventure by Disney, no characters. I wonder if that will limit the exposure to Disney fans.
