Thoughts on Ohana for dinner?

sxeensweet

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
The activities include: 1. Children getting some kind of a broom and a coconut, and they have a "race" around the restaurant (one single line does one loop of the restaurant) pushing the coconut with the broom. (My 10 year is now too cool to participate). 2. A person (was a woman every time I have been) plays a ukulele and teaches hula dancing. If you participate in this, you get a free lei.

My children (7,10,12) have done both many times.

The person with the Ukulele also sings songs throughout the meal. One time I went, the volume was too loud on her speakers, and it was kind of annoying, but generally it adds to the ambiance.
Thanks for the specifics that I left out that may help some to clarify. And yes totally agree she usually adds to the ambiance.
So none of it Ihas ever bothered us or was "kids running around like mad" at all though even during the races. Lol. In fact not one kid has ever even been near our tables every time we go and the lady was never loud either so we have been lucky with that. We don't even really notice the kids etc. So we continue to go and still love our meals there as it seems you do too. It's a great family or romantic atmosphere. To add she usually walks around and gives out leis too as we have gotten several from her and we have no kids and don't usually participate. ;)

Love 'Ohana. We try to go every time we're at WDW, and have an ADR for upcoming Sept. trip. As others have mentioned, you will eat a lot of food (hope you're a carnivore) but the best part is the dessert. We try to schedule it so we can see the fireworks at MK. Last time, we were lucky to have a table right by the windows facing MK and could watch Wishes. Yes, all the kids gathered around our table as it was prime viewing area, but we didn't mind. I could understand their excitement!

Thanks @Tuvalu ! We've never been there simply because we had assumed it was communal seating like at a hibachi grill. Glad to hear that isn't the case. We'll give it a try although I think it's probably too late to get a reservation for our upcoming trip, or even for the one after that.

'Ohana is a great place to eat. Our only problem with it is that we have never gone there really hungry due to snacking in the parks. By the time dessert came around, we were too full to really enjoy it. Make no mistake this is a big meal and all you can eat of anything they serve.

We are driving to Disney in September and this time we have an ADR for 'Ohana that evening. After a 7-hour drive, we should be really hungry and even have room to enjoy that wonderful bread pudding.

You will love 'Ohana!

The opposite was true for us LOL. I was looking forward to our first meal there, it was our check in day after driving 6 hours, we went directly to MK, and then to 'Ohana for dinner. Dinner was so sad because the food was fantastic but we were too tired and sleepy to enjoy it! My husband loves bread pudding and he left dinner with no memory of it LOL. Our next trip we had to have a redo and we both made sure we were well rested. Make sure you don't get too tired!!

Just one thing people might want to be aware of, not that this will happen every time.
On our visit last week, we had a 8:30 ADR and arrived about 8:20. We ended up being seated at around 9:15. This was due to diners lingering at that their tables to watch fireworks from Magic Kingdom, which began at 9.
Three different cast members confirmed this is a very common occurrence. And another local couple we met at Tambu Lounge while waiting said they were 'Ohana regulars and when possible always scheduled their ADR 15 minutes after the fireworks start time to avoid the wait. We noticed they were seated just 5 minutes after us despite their ADR being 45 minutes behind ours.
Not a huge deal, but something we'll definitely keep in mind next time we book 'Ohana.
The food, by the way, was Amazing!

I've never done Teppan Edo for the same reason. And I only ate at the Biergarten once. I was a single park stormer, and was seated at a table with another family who stared at me through the entire dinner as if I was a serial murderer who was going to jump up at any minute and start slicing! Very uncomfortable!!!

Hahaha. I think I read one of your trip reports where you mentioned that. It probably contributed to my fear of communal seating, compiled with the fact that 'Ohana is family style I was really worried about how that would work.

You do get your own table at 'Ohana, even if you're a single. I'll wait to do the communal seating again till I visit with someone else. That way when it goes bad at least I have someone to talk to!
