Thoughts on Monorails; Why They're Dirty, Not So Magical

Quite. Disneyland's monorails are retro-futuristic rocket ships.

WDW's monorails are 1980s Learjets.

TDR's monorails are.....giant railbound sperm whales.
The white body and ocean-green wave pattern makes me think of Moby D ick.

"FROM HELL'S HEART I STAB AT THEE! FOR HATE'S SAKE, I SPIT MY LAST BREATH AT THEE!"

EDIT - Well that's just PEACHY. I can't even enter the name of one of the greatest American novels ever written thanks to WDWMagic's filtering system. Surely they could program these boards to accept the phrase "Moby ****" as an exception to the filtering?

Me and Moby Dick are friends!

I believe that when Walt was the owner he was not distracted or focused on any other business. It's was his and his idea and his pride said it was going to be different and the best. I believe that Disney is way to large and diversified to run the parks as they need to be to maintain the high standards that Walt set. This is why they are buying up other content because it's easy and lazy. They don't have the passion to create new ideas that are beyond ordinary.
I really wish the parks were their only concern but that genie left the bottle.
It's sad to see a monorail moving along with an open door or talk the monorails are dirty or to be discontinued because they have been allowed to fall into disrepair. I wish they would make the park totally independent of the other businesses and hire a CEO to run them that respects its history and will run them accordingly.

I had posted this thought else where one time so if you have read it sorry. I liken Disney to Bank of America. When they first started out they were small and customer service was great as they gobbeled up other banks and got bigger and bigger their customer service got worse. Now they have closed branches all over and their cutomer service is still bad. It seems they got to big and forgot their base --the customer. I think Disney is going down the same road, when it was just DL and WDW they focused on customer service and up keep now they have their fingers in so many pies none get their !00% attention: money is siphoned off one to bail out another. So, yes Poly Lover I agree with you.

Perhaps we should bring over some of the Tokyo folks in tell us how a true guest experience should be for a 5 star theme park and resort should run their monorails. I know Tokyo and DW are two completely different systems and there would need to be some major construction, notably through the Contemporary. But I've seen better looking public transportation than what's being presented to guests currently.

Japan is an incredibly clean country that goes a deeper than just good management. Cleanliness is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and I’m afraid it just isn’t so in America. Too many slobs to be honest.

Tokyo’s busiest subway lines are cleaner than the cleanest monorail at WDW.

It breaks my heart to be witnessing this!

All of Japan is clean in general and the people there actually love and care about their country, so they treat it with respect.

TOTALLY different mentality than in America.

I’ve never seen a cleaner place.
Are you saying disneys problems are because we don't care about our country? I think it's more the corporation doesn't care enough about its product.

I think the difference between WDW and TDR is that the Japanese have the respect to keep their park clean as guests. A long time ago DLR and WDW used to shine. When we'd visit as kids, we'd never see trash thrown around, coffee cups left laying on a shelf where a trash can was literally 5 feet away, and writing of "joe blow was here" all over the walls while waiting in line. Now when I take my kids, I can't tell you how many times I fume when I see people throw their trash down as if some poor CM is supposed to clean up after them. I see graffiti all over the queue areas and rides. Bathrooms are frequently disgusting (seriously ladies, learn how to use a toilet). I certainly think the corporation needs to step up their game and address safety issues and park development in areas that have sat stagnant for decades; but we as "guests" certainly need to act as "guests" and take a certain responsibility for keeping the parks enjoyable for everyone.

Combination. I think Americans and many other people are slobs in general when compared to the Japanese and I’m a proud American. They are on another level. They have respect. We just aren’t clean when it’s not our own stuff and sometimes not even then. Ever sit in someone’s car?

You see Japanese fans clean up their section of the stadium after LOSING the World Cup? Btw, that’s normal for them. Think other countries would do this, particularly after losing?

Disney could do better because other places within WDW are clean, but only because Disney works hard to clean up the mess and refurb worn areas.
In Japan, it’s literally culturally ingrained to be clean and respectful of property. You will see it in every place you go if you visit Japan.
