Thoughts on Disney Springs Redevelopment

It's a must do every trip to go to now Disney Springs since my wife did an internship there in college. She has to eat earl of sandwich and go to world of Disney every trip. All these new restaurants sound awesome, so it'll still be a must do for us. Not a full day type area for us, but definitely a 1/4-1/2 day.

I thought the same about a similar mall here in Jacksonville (St John's Town Center), but they appear to be doing very well. I imagine the same will be true for Disney Springs.
Yeah but the only reason why they do so well is because there is a Wal-Mart, Target and countless other big box stores. This isn't some Disney World property. This is the Largest city in the lower 48. St. Johns Town center is successful because it's the largest collection of stores in North East Florida and for much of Southern Georgia. Orlando has Tons of similar projects Waterford Lakes Town center not to mention countless Prime Outlets and Fashion Square, Mall at Millennia, Florida, and Festival Bay Mall just to name a few. This is why i'm so confused by this project. I get that WDW at one point in Walt's imagination was to be a City but come on, it never took on. If this is a competitive edge to Citywalk it's a pretty lame one.

It works because it's a global based concept, people who come and go to visit WDW esp they happen to travel there from all over the world:angelic:, Disney's design when it comes to Downtown Disney and now Disney Spring's expansion of offerings are still to be internationally-known, or significations orignially established from other major US cities. What you will find mostly except along the line a few things you might still find at let's say Florida Mall or Mall at Millenia, they are still international establishments. DIsney World on it's own is a showcase to the world, and the people who would travel only to find it there, will be willing to spend for the things they can't otherwise somewhere else where they come from this is where foreigners and American's who want international aclaimed appeal will suceed and buy.x
As for the rest, you can still by when your at Disney Springs, there are plenty of other stores I'm sure that will suit you to your flavor and budget & still go enjoy to go have a look even if you can't buy just discover what the significants they offer as pleasurable delights for it's people.*:)
This is the reason why Disney is building this. They don't want tourist to have to leave their property in order to shop or dine at Disney. In essence it will kind of hurt the local economy which enjoys the tourist who dine/shop off property. However I am a huge fan of the project. I like it's design and reminds me a little bit of Miami's CocoWalk. But for the local/Florida Resident. Who would want to shop at Disney Springs with all the foreigners or just plain tourist when i can stay in my hometown and shop at the mall/towncenter type shopping centers.

I am not a fan of the Springs either. I prefer the 70's incarnation where it was nice and peaceful (at least that's what it looked like from the pics) however things change, so I have to be acceptable of that.

Jobs received a ton of Disney stock when Disney bought Pixar. i don't think it is "Apple" that owns a lot fo Disney stock though, just the Jobs family.
Yep, specifically his wife's trust. She is the largest single stockholder of the Disney company and Iger is on the Apple board.

They didn't take the nightclubs away because they were attracting riff raff - they took them away because no one was going. Disney is generally a family holiday, involving children. It's only a generally small demographic who go there to party. I remember the bars at the old Disney downtown always being empty, it's the same with Universal now - they're never full.
I read a report that said it was one of the reason. I mispoke with the information and should have put the rest up. That's my bad. From what I read though, it was still oneof the reason. Thanks for your input.

I for one am very excited about different bars/night life on property...now if we could just get Mr. Buffett to move his establishment over to the Springs!!! Fins up!!!!

To be fair....I don't really want night clubs...I just want a few different options to get drinks at and then head back to the resort!

I agree. I'm not a fan of the non-Disney stores they're putting on the property. Although, I do not mind third party stores. I just feel like they could have incorporated more Disney in stores, etc.

Let's see. There is:

World of Disney
Marketplace Co-op
Disney Pin Trading
365 Disney Days of Christmas
D-Street
Disney's Candy Cauldron
Disney Quest
Goofy's Candy Company
The Art of Disney
Disney's Wonderful World of Memories
Disney Designs Tee

And that's still not enough Disney for you at DTD? I like Disney as much as the next person here and I have the Disney merch to prove it. Call me crazy, but after visiting the Disney gift shops in the parks and resorts and, yes, World of Disney and any of the above, isn't that enough Disney merchandise? I like the variety of looking through non-Disney stores.

It's just an opinion of my own....
