Thoughts on a Disneyland after hours event.

I don't know how many of you pay attention to what's going on in the East Coast parks, but apparently Disney just wrapped up experimenting with paid after hours events. For 150 bucks, 75 for pass holders I believe, you could get into the park for a few hours before closing, and then three hours after close with very limited capacity. Giving you effectively five or six hours, three of which having the park to yourself. Say what you will about wether you think the price is worth it, but I think it's fantastic. When's the last time you've had the experience of walking down main street by yourself. Not bumping into people going past Astro Orbiter. Walking onto Space Mountain.

This is an experience I'm desperate to have at Disneyland and would pay easily 150 for it. Sure it's a premium price, but what a premium experience! What are your guys' thoughts on this. Should they do it? Have any other ideas? Chances of this happening? I'd love to hear all about it.

From what I've heard, it's been a pretty miserable failure at WDW. I personally would never pay $150 for 3 hours in a packed park and 3 hours of low crowds...and it's limited attractions that are open for the latter. That being said, It would not surprise me if locals, especially AP's, were all over this.

This should absolutely not happen here, and I hope it never does. It was a miserable failure at WDW, and deservedly so.

I already take full advantage of extra magic hour. To me it seems to be a ploy for more money for Disney so I think I'll pass. DL is small enough that I can get it all done in the amount of time offered and save my money for other things. Good idea for WDW where midnight is only 9pm to a westcoaster but not so much at DL.

It's pretty unnecessary anyway. When DL is open until 11 or 12, you can get on most attractions in the park with a minimum wait as it clears out in the last few hours of park operation, especially if you know how to work it. No need to spend $150.

I guess this just shows me just how much of a locals park Disneyland is. People like me who have to plan a vacation to come down see time in the park at an absolute premium. Where locals just aren't interested.

WDW isn't a locals park at all and no one bought tickets for this event. They had to stand at resort bus stops and hand them out for free to get bodies into the MK for the after-hours business. It was a dismal failure for WDW and that place is at least 90% tourist driven.

Yep....this..!

I was just about to mention this, but see Endor has it covered.

Even as a long distance visitor, I have learned that staying later during the late hour evenings gives you a experience that is close to 'having the Park to yourself.'

Some of my favorite moments from past visits were those 1am- 1:30am strolls in the Hub and Main Street, poking around in the shops with a few other stragglers, or just sitting on the 'front porch' of Rolly's Palm Parlor.
The crowds are gone, you can take your time exiting, and enjoy the ambiance without thousands of heads and bodies blocking the view.

It's not that we're not interested in after-hours events. For me personally, I would never pay for something like that because for one, I don't see the value, and two, as I stated already, Disneyland offers these types of events for free (for annual passholders). They send out invites through email or all you have to do is check on the website. You sign up and show up. I wouldn't pay for this, as it has been free for years.

Just out of curiosity, how often do they do this? I've been a pass holder nearly a whole year now and haven't ever gotten an email about anything like that.

Maybe a couple of times out of the year. You have to check on the site for special events.

For those whose passes are about to expire, they are usually invited to an AP party at the park, and it's after-hours. When does your pass expire?

Mike expires July 16. But I'll always re-up.
