Thor: Love and Thunder SPOILER THREAD

I also waited till it was on D+ to watch it. Just not going to theaters anymore. I thought it was solid mid-pack MCU just like all of the rest of Phase IV (other than the AMAZING SM:NWH). It was fine. But definitely my least favorite of the Thor films. Probably because of a distinct lack of Loki (Matt Damon SO does NOT count). I enjoyed the Guardians moments though.

And I freakin' loved the goats. :D

We watched this last night finally, and both loved it.

Serious laugh out loud moments, loved the tone and vibe of the movie. Really lightened my day.

And that goats 😂

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Come on guys, you gotta be kidding me? This movie makes "Thor: The Dark World" look like a classic. There were hardly any scenes that were serious in it. Even when one of his best friends (that he's known all of his life) is dying Thor's making stupid jokes.

Dumb humor, sure. Not nearly as brilliant as Ragnarok, sure. But enjoyable for what it was. I'd watch it again.

And I love Dark World. ;) (Not sure if the editing or the structure or pacing was the problem, or even the dark art design that made it look like a Zack Snyder film, but there's a solid story hidden underneath all that, some bits that absolutely crack me up - I live for Darcy 😍 - and it's the best Loki film there is, so...)

For me, the MCU was always most enjoyable for the Thor stories and the Cap stories. That hasn't changed for me yet. Though I'm warming to some of the new kids on the block. :) Others... not so much. But still hanging in there for all of it at the moment.

No, but really, it's all about the goats... :D

I wouldn't put dark world in my top MCU films, but I enjoyed it. I don't get why so many call it terrible.

As far as love and thunder goes, it was ok. I'm a big fan of Ragnarok but this one took the "silly" parts just a bit too far. It was late last night that I watched it, so I might be looking too into things. I think the reason it had the overly joking tone is it's a story being told by Korg. So he's telling it in his silly slapstick way. Did it work? In parts it did. I think there was a good story to tell, it just never took it self seriously enough until the end. If he could have struck a better balance, like Ragnarok, it could have been great. I need to watch it again, but right now I'd say it's in 4th place for the Thor films.

I think the excessive humor was for two reasons:

1) they saw how successful it was to take the franchise and ratchet it up to an 11 in Ragnarok. It worked there. But they said, hey, let's do the same thing again - but instead of taking it up to where Ragnarok was, they took Ragnarok and ratcheted THAT up to an 11 - too much.

2) it's a story about a guy who wants to kill others because his kid died in his arms and he needs someone to blame since he can't process his grief while another character is dying of untreatable cancer after reconnecting with her lost love, oh and a main character has her arm cut off. So yeah, actual super dark subject matter masked in loud brght dumb humor because otherwise this movie would have been damned depressing.

That said, Matt Damon as Loki was once again the worst part. :p

They failed to strike the balance of Ragnarok. I watched it again and it was better the 2nd time. If the whole movie held the same tone as the final 3rd, it would have been as good or better than Ragnarok. Like you said, it had some extremely dark subject matter. And that needed some lighter tones to even things out. But yea, unfortunately they blew past light speed and went straight to plaid.

I’m not a huge marvel fan but I did enjoy the earlier Thor movies. Finally watched this one and was disappointed. It was almost like Taika Waititi was making so hard to make a ‘Taika Waititi film’ that the end result was a mess that at times was almost a parody of itself
