Thor: Love and Thunder SPOILER THREAD

Here's what I said in the other thread:

I thought the movie had major tone problems. Too much of the movie is ridiculously silly, but then you have some aspects — like Jane dealing with cancer and Christian Bale's creepy and dark villain character — that are played super seriously. Bale, while he gave a great performance, felt like he belonged in a completely different movie from everyone else in the cast. Imagine Joaquin Phoenix's Joker or Javier Bardem's character from No Country for Old Men appearing in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and being played super seriously. That's the level of tonal dissonance that Bale had with the rest of the film.

Overall it felt more like a parody of a Thor movie than an actual Thor movie. What saved the movie was Jane Foster's character arc and a strong final 30 minutes. The movie ended on a high note that I think will make people forgive and forget the flaws that plagued the majority of the film.

You mean like SP:NWH and the 3 Peter Parkers?

This conversation would probably be easier in the Spoiler thread. ;)
Here is what I'm talking about, now that we have a spoiler thread.

So we know that Hercules is now part of the MCU thanks to the end credit scene, an already established character in Marvel Comics with a long history with Thor. And we know Disney has their version from the animated movie, now getting the live action treatment being directed by Guy Ritchie.

What I'm talking about is what if they cast the same actor playing Hercules in the MCU as Hercules in the Disney Live Action version, as well as Zeus played by Russel Crowe. And have the Hercules origin story be the cross-over to link the Disney Live Action version to the MCU.

As I said they probably won't do it, but it would be interesting if they did. And would be marketing genius to link the two properties.

I have a feeling a release with extra scenes will make me rank this movie a lot higher. As I said in the other, there was too much stuff not shown. I need to see Jane pick the hammer up and transform for the first time. I need to see how easily Gorr is dispatching the gods so that we get a real sense of his power and threat level. I liked the stupid comedy sections, I thought Gorr was great looking, but the stakes weren't set very well in the first half of the movie.

I've been thinking about this, and I agree, this would be very interesting. You can have his origin story in ancient Greece be a lighthearted romcom. When you pick up his story in current day MCU, you can go darker because thousands of years have passed.

Kevin Feige would never go for it. But I wish Disney would try to convince him.

Also, Russel Crowe would have to work on his atrocious Greek "accent".

I do find it funny after Hercules was criticized for having a very, VERY toned down and inaccurate Zeus, another Disney-affiliated movie 25 years later has a, shall we say, more accurate Zeus as a sex-obsessed blowhard, hah.

There is evidently a 4 hour cut somewhere. I hope we get a directors cut.

I honestly didn't mind Crowe's accent, I've been around Greek's that sound a lot like that.

You never know, Feige might just go for it, he seems to be all-in on Disney.

Unlikely. Also, most movie assembly cuts start at around 3-4 hours. I'm sure many stuff cut would have hurt the film.

That said, we could have used more screentime to develop Gorr and Jane. We should have seen Gorr killing gods early on and seen more of how Jane became Mighty Thor.

While a 4 hour directors cut is not likely, as Taika himself has said its not likely, we have seen extended cut re-releases of Marvel films before with most recently SM:NWH. So it is possible we'll get that at some point in the near future.

I also finally watched it and quite frankly it was horrid. Just not good at all

Me too, I was really putting it off. I've been doing the same thing with "Pinocchio".

It was awful from start to finish. It reminded me of what an Unfunny Ryan Reynold's movie (which is most of his films) would look like. There was way too many computer effects, which is probably why it looked so bad. The poor effects people working on it were obviously overworked. Even Gorr the God butcher could have looked better.

Christian Bale was the best part of the whole film. But like was said earlier he was one of the few serious parts. It was like having Voldemort in the female Ghostbusters. It just didn't seem to mesh together well.

Yeah the tone shifts were all over the place. If you're going to open the movie by killing a child in her fathers arms and then give one of your protagonists stage IV cancer, you need to handle that with a little more skill than they were able to pull off.

I did really like the black and white section, I thought that was well done.

I have no intention of watching Pinocchio at all

Agreed Christian Bale was awesome in this
