Trip Report "This is a down and Dirty trip! No complaining!" A June 2016 trip report

Jambo everyone! We are back from our down and dirty trip to wdw! We had tons of laughs, lost a license, had 4 attractions break in Epcot, experienced Universal for the first time, and of course, met tons of amazing cast members. This trip got the nick name down and dirty for a few reasons. The big one was that is trip was not supposed to happen. We normally go to Disney every 2 years but when we realized everyone would be working this summer, we took it as an opportunity to spend 6 days in Florida. Because this was a last minute budget trip, we had no dinning reservations, stayed value, and didn't have park hoppers which meant if it didn't get done the day we were at that park, it wasn't happening. We learned throughout this trip a lot of hidden gems in the parks (especially food wise), and that sometimes, you don't need all the extra things and planning to have a fun time!

Enough rambling though, on with the show!

The cast:
Myself(Emily)- 24 years old, just finished my first year being an elementary school teacher! Used to work at DAK! Favorite park: Animal Kingdom!

Mom- The parent of us girls! Not a big ride fan but she loves characters and just being in Disney. Mom has a dairy allergy (this was her first trip diagnosed with the allergy). Favorite Park: Magic Kingdom

Samantha- 19 years old. Doesn't like mornings. Was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease about a year ago. Can only eat white meat or seafood. Talks to everyone she meets. Favorite park: Epcot.

Haley- 16 years old. Has grown up going to the parks. Loves Winnie the Pooh. Goes with the flow. Favorite park: DHS, favorite this trip, magic kingdom.

Resort: Pop Century
Dates: June 21st-June 26th.

Day 1- Last Day of School! Last Day of school!

Our flight was scheduled to leave at 3:35 pm but before we could get on our plane, Haley and I needed to go to our last day of school! We both had half days which worked out great. Haley finished school at 11:10am. My dad picked her up from school, ran to the store to get a few last minute things, then was picking me up by 12:20! We were off to the airport!

We arrived at the airport around 1:20. When we walked in we discovered something amazing, the line to check bags for southwest was nonexistent. With our bags checked in and boarding passes in our hands, we were off to security by 1:30.

Then something even more amazing happened, there was no line at security! We made it through in 5 minutes and were at our gate by 1:40!!!!

We grabbed some lunch at McDonalds and Fresh City and just relaxed for the next hour until our plane arrived. While we were waiting, received this email:

Around 2:30 our plane had arrived! One step closer to Disney!

Now since we booked southwest, we had to board with our group. The problem was I bought my ticket individually, my mom bought her ticket individually, and then my sisters bought their tickets together. This meant we weren't one after another for boarding time. I boarded first with A55 and I became the annoying person trying to save seats for the others. Mom boarded next with B04 and was able to get the seat behind me. Sam and Haley boarded B15 and B16 and got the middle seat next to us. Yay for all of us sitting together!

And then we sat on the runway for an hour :banghead:

Apparently, there was some "weather" we were going to fly through on our original path. I say "weather" because when checking radar, we only saw light rain and it was out at sea. But Pilot knows best! He continued to keep us updated the entire time which was good. Our plane ended up leaving Hartford at 4:40 pm.

The flight was uneventful (thankfully). There was a peanut allergy on board so we got some yummy chex mix:happy:

We landed around 6:50pm, only 20 minutes later than our planned land time! When we arrived at Magical Express, We went into line 5 and saw the line was already a few families deep. We thought that meant a bus must be coming soon. The bus came in about 30 minutes and we were set to go to Pop Century!

Coming Up: Downtown...I mean Disney Springs at night! and 16 hours in the Magic Kingdom!

Day 3 continued...

It was time for our character spot fast pass! We made our way over to the other side of the park showed our fastpasses and waited about 10 minutes to meet the characters. During those 10 minutes in the ac we were starting to crash. I had multiple blisters on my feet, the heat was getting to the sisters, mom had a nice sunburn from the day before. It was nice to be in ac and just relax for a few minutes. Then it was our turn!

After meeting Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy, we went over to Test Track. The wait was posted at 40 minutes so in the queuing line we went! While we were in line, the ride broke down a few times, making our wait time go up to about 70 minutes. Finally we were creating our car!

Onto the final trek of the queue! We are almost there!

Then the lights come on. They are evacuating people off the ride. Ride number 3 down for the day:(. With our fastpass in hand we made the walk over to Mexico. We walked inside of Mexico and as usually had to try things out.

We started to make our way to the Mexico ride, only to be greeted by a sign that said it was down. Ride number 4 of the day down. After this past hour of attractions down, we went outside for some nachos and margaritas. I go up to the line to order my mango margarita and the cast member asked for my id. I start looking through my wallet, it's not there. Open all the compartments of my bag, not there either. I started to panic. I hadn't cleaned out my bag since we arrived so it couldn't be at the resort. As I ate my nachos questioning where this id could possibly be, I remembered my wallet exploding in magic kingdom the day before:facepalm: called lost and found but they were already closed. I'd have to try again tomorrow.

It was around 7:30pm now and we had one country left, Norway. The frozen ride was down yet again so we checked MDE to see if test track was up and it was! Back over we went to design our second car.

Pure excitement! We are on the ride!

When we got off the ride Haley mentioned she saw Baymax earlier in the day. We took a walk over to find out if he was still there and he was with no wait! Sam was very interested in this character and how he was so squishy.

Our last stop of the day was Norway. We had accepted that we would not be able to ride the frozen ride this trip. But as we walked around we noticed a 10 minute wait to meet Anna and Elsa. Who can say no to that?!?!

It was time to find a spot for illumination, which is a favorite of ours. Normally our spot is either in Japan or on the bridge between the UK and France. Because we met Anna and Elsa, we were picking a spot kinda late. We knew if we walked all the way to the bridge, we wouldn't get anything. But then we saw an opening right on the water in Italy.

Another awesome spot we found this trip! Some pictures from Illuminations.

Then it was time to say goodnight to Epcot.

Coming up next... The best day of this trip at DAK!

Sorry for the long delay! Beginning of the school year is a tad crazy.

Day 4- Aniaml Kingdom!

We woke up around 8am today. We figured since the park was open late, we wouldn't have to rush for opening. During breakfast I called lost and found in hopes of finding my missing Id. After being on hold for 35 minutes, I was told nothing had shown up but if it did they will call me back and send it to Pop Century. Panic started to set in. How was I going to get on a flight in 2 days without an Id? It honestly put me in a down and out mood for the first hour of the day.

While I was on the phone with lost and found, mom was setting up our transportation to universal for the following day. This was a horrible phone call. We were supposed to get free transportation with dreams unlimited who we booked the universal tickets through but they had no record of us ever ordering tickets and told us to call mears. Mears said they didn't work with that company and the phone tag continued needless to say we were having a rough morning.

At 9:15 we decided no point in sitting around we need to still have fun today. So with no Id and no transportation the next day, we got on the bus to animal kingdom. Once we saw the tree of life, we were back to our normal selves.

Starbucks and Disney conservation button in hand and we were on our way to the safari! But not before some drumming!

We had fastpasses for 10:30 for the safari. We ended up waiting about 20 minutes and got the seat right behind the driver! Jambo everyone! See you in 2 weeks!

The safari is one of my favorite attractions, always has been but it holds so many memories now because when I was a cast member at DAK I rode safari with 3 out of the 4 programs I taught. I know little secrets about safari and seeing all the animals was like reuniting with old friends. Enjoy the obnoxious amount of animal photos to follow.

After the safari we continued on to Pangani forest. Most animals were sleeping as it was starting to get really hot.

Once we finished at Pangani I was ready for a snack. The rest of the crew was ready for water. So we made a stop to harambe marketplace.

2 days before I stopped working for Animal Kingdom, I got to experience the market place at the cast preview. They were testing all sorts of foods and I was excited to see which ones made the final cut. I ended up getting the chicken skewers and papaya salad (most likely not the actual name). It was delicious!

With food in my belly and drinks in our hands, we started our trek over to Asia!

Still to come....Mom goes on a real ride?!?! And we are the chosen ones?!?!

Sorry for the obnoxiously long wait for an update. Here is a quick update, more to come in the next couple days. Back to animal kingdom.

We were on our way to Asia because we had fast passes for Everest and kali river rapids. First up was Everest! This is a favorite of mine and my sisters so we made sure to get the front row.

Always a great ride! It was getting super hot inside the park. So we went over to use our fast passes for kali. It was so hot that mom actualy decided to go on the ride! The wait with fast pass was about half a hour but at least we were in the shade.

I always get off this ride feeling like it should be much longer than what it is. Anyone else feel this way? At least we were cooled off though. Onto Dinoland!

Goals in dinoland: meet Donald and ride dinosaur. We did both of these in under an hour!
