Walt Disney, excited by thenew technology already in use
at Disneyland, approached LasVegas officials in 1960 with the
idea of running a monorail down the strip. He was turned down.
(In 1995 a monorail mass transitsystem opened on the Las
Vegas Strip.)

Winners of the 38th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards are announced
live on CBS from the Las Vegas Hilton. Hosted by Wayne Brady, Disney/ABC scores 14 Daytime

Walt Disney World's telephone system was the first totally electronic system to use
underground cable instead of standard poles with overhead lines.
Vista-United Telecommunications, the telecommunications company created to service all Disney resorts in Florida, was responsible for installing the nation’s first commercial fiber-optic phone cable!

2011:
Cars 2, Pixar's sequel to to the 2006 animated Cars, is generally released in U.S. theaters. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and tow truck Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy) head to Japan and Europe to compete in the World Grand Prix ... but Mater becomes sidetracked with international espionage!
Released along with Cars 2 is the Pixar animated short Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation. Directed by Gary Rydstrom, it features the voices of Jodi Benson and Michael Keaton as Barbie and Ken; who plan a romantic get-away to a tropical paradise.
On this same day, Walt Disney World opens a new meet-and-greet at Disney’s Hollywood Studios featuring Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, two of the characters from the Disney-Pixar movies Cars and Cars 2.
Disney Publishing Worldwide announces its new Disney Comics App for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch available on the App Store. Disney Comics gives readers instant access to an extensive collections of comics, short stories and graphic novels, ranging from classic adventures starring Mickey Mouse to brand new comics from Toy Story and Cars 2.

2012:
Don Grady, known to Disney fans the world over as a Mouseketeer (in 1957) on the original The Mickey Mouse Club, passes away at the age of 68 at his home in Thousand Oaks, California. Born Don Louis Agrati on June 8, 1944, he was also one of
television's most beloved big brothers as Robbie Douglas on the long-running 1960s hit My Three Sons. A singer,
composer, and musician, Grady's Disney credits inlcuded a new Winnie the Pooh theme, songs for Disney's Magic
English, scoring game animations, and the first original Princess songs in 50 years, The Princess Tea Party Album
and The Princess Christmas Album, co-written with multi-platinum lyricist, Marty Panzer. Despite only appearing for
one season on The Mickey Mouse Club, Grady reunited with his fellow Mouseketeers over the years - most recently during their 50th anniversary celebration.

The video for the Beach Boys' 1988 hit song "Kokomo" was filmed on
the "beach" at Walt Disney World's Grand Floridian Resort in Florida.
Performing in the video is honorary Beach Boy and Disney
fan ... actor John Stamos! The resort had not opened when the
video was shot and so the band were GF's very first guests.

His exceptionally long tenure (which began in 1939) saw the rise of nearly every

& resorts currently open on Walt Disney World property
(at a rate of one per night) it would take you about 75 years!
2011:
It is reported that Disney is developing another film based on one of its theme park rides. Walt Disney Pictures has hired Jason Dean Hall to write the script based on "The Matterhorn," a popular amusement bob sled ride at Disneyland. The storyline will be about five young mountain climbers scaling The Matterhorn who have an unfortunate encounter with a Yeti.

Disneyland's original Tinker Bell was a 71-year-old Hungarian circus performer named Tiny
Kline. She was the first to fly off the top of the Matterhorn on a zip
line, which was probably easy for her - she previously worked as a
stunt aerialist, hanging from a flying airplane by her teeth!


2011:
Goofy’s Sky School officially opens at Disney California Adventure in the newly renovated Paradise Pier area. The roller coaster (on the site of the former Mulholland Madness) is themed on the 1940 cartoon Goofy’s Glider, in which Goofy attempt to build and successfully launch a glider. Riders are taken on a winding journey past signs giving lessons from Goofy on how to fly. Also debuting at Paradie Pier; Paradise Garden Grill restaurant and Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta restaurant.
Also on this evening at Disneyland, the park displays its special Fourth of July fireworks (for the first of four nights).
To celebrate the launch of the Vinylmation™ – Pirates of the Caribbean series, Disney holds a special release party at D-Street located at the Downtown Disney West Side in Florida.

In the early days of Disneyland,Mr. Toad did not appear in Mr.
Toad's Wild Ride, nor did Peter Pan or Snow White feature in
their own rides. The idea was that guests would view the
attractions from the lead character's point of view. Hardly
anyone understood this concept so now each character makes
a brief appearance.

Tom Sawyer Island were given fishing poles, hooks,
and worms so they could fish for live catfish from the
Catfish Cove docks near the Old Mill!

The night skies over Walt Disney World Resort light up with special patriotic
pyrotechnic shows on this Independence Day. Magic Kingdom presents "Disney’s Celebrate
America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky" paying homage to the hopes and dreams of America’s forefathers.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios Fireworks, lighting and special effects – backed by the driving live rock and roll of
Mulch, Sweat, and Shears – combine to bring a new twist to celebrating the Fourth. At Epcot, sky-watchers
check out "IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth" enhanced by "The Heartbeat of Freedom," an overture of
traditional Americana themes displayed in a pyrotechnic and laser light event.

Parker Brothers released the Disneyland Monorail Game in 1960.
The object of the board game was to be the first player to complete the Monorail Ride
and finish ahead of Casey Jr.

2012:
The Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives exhibit has its grand opening at the
Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, with former first lady Nancy Reagan. The exhibit
marks the unique relationship that the former president and the Walt Disney Company had, starting with
Disneyland's grand opening in 1955, which featured Reagan as the master of ceremonies. Examples of the exhibit
range from Reagan's appearances at the theme parks to his likeness featured in the Hall of Presidents.
(The exhibit opens to the public Friday June 6 and will run for nine months.)

In 1966, trumpeter/singer Louis Armstrong was approached by Walt Disney to record a number
of classic tunes for the Disney Company. Armstrong once said, "All music is folk music.
I ain't never heard no horse sing a song."

2012:
Disney's new "Phineas and Ferb" interactive game
opens at Epcot. Inspired by the Disney Channel animated series,
the game allows Disney World guests to play themed missions
around the Epcot World Showcase

Disney's Aladdin The New Stage Musical has its world-premiere in Seattle at the
5th Avenue Theatre. Running through July 31, the new stage adaptation incorporates the Oscar-
winning songs from the 1992 animated film, penned by composer Alan Menken and lyricists Howard Ashman
and Tim Rice. The pilot production is being used to launch the new two-act version as a licensable property
for professional and amateur organizations through Music Theatre International, which handles rights for
Disney Theatrical titles.
