2011:

Disneynature releases African Cats, narrated by Samuel L. Jackson. Telling the story of two different animal families in the wild by using real-life footage, the film focuses on a young lion cub being raised by his mother, the leader of a pride defending his family from a banished lion, and a mother cheetah who is raising five newborns. The movie's theme song, "The World I Knew" (written and produced by Ryan Tedder), is sung by Jordin Sparks (the winner of the sixth season of American Idol).

10,000 guests receive branded, waterproof beach wallets. Guests who cruise with DCL on its NYC itineraries will

The landmark icon was also named Top Building in the Recreational Architecture category

On its debut in 1989 Disney-MGM Studios (today known as
Disney's Hollywood Studios) was so crowded that officials had to
close its parking lot at only 9:15 a.m. - just about an hour after
opening!

2011:

Thor premieres at Disney's El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. Stars Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky arrive at the red carpet in a personal fleet of Acura S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicles inspired by the film. Also in attendance is Walt Disney Company President and CEO Robert Iger.

(Based on the comic book character of the same name published by Marvel Comics, the film will be generally released in the U.S. on May 6.)

The concept for Disney's Hollywood Studios (originally called Disney-MGM Studios) came from an idea to have a movie pavilion at Epcot. Once Imagineers realized that the range of possibilities were larger than just one attraction, the idea for a 3rd theme park was born!

During planning for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, Imagineers wanted to select
one of the world's greatest bands around which to build the back story
for the attraction. They decided Aerosmith would be the perfect fit.
But initially Imagineers were unable to reach singer Steven Tyler and guitarist
Joe Perry. Why? Because they were vacationing with their families at the
Disney-MGM Studios Park!

2012:

The Avengers, a superhero film produced by Marvel Studios, distributed by Walt

Disney Pictures, and based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name,

is generally released in the U.S. Scripted and directed by Joss Whedon, the film features the ensemble

cast of Robert Downey, Jr. (as Iron Man), Chris Evans (as Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (as Hulk), Chris

Hemsworth (as Thor), Scarlett Johansson (as Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (as Hawkeye), Tom Hiddleston (as

At Disney's Hollywood Studios, the dinosaur on Echo Lake (standing since opening day) is a tribute to pioneering animator Winsor McCay and his revolutionary 1914 animated cartoon, Gertie the Dinosaur.
Although not the first animated film,as is sometimes reported, it was the
first cartoon to feature a character with an appealing personality.

At Disney's Muppet*Vision 3-D, the 3-D glasses are actually
called ... 3-D glasses. But at It's Tough to be a Bug they are
called Bug Eyes, and at Honey, I Shrunk the Audience they are
called Safety Goggles.
Park guests also wear 3-D glasses (or Carnival Games Goggles) for
Toy Story Midway Mania!

2011:

Disneyland announces that the park will allow about 2,400 fans to ride the new Star Tours attraction during a preview event on May 20. The attendees will be the first people to experience the new version in Anaheim - which will officially debut June 3. (Coincidentally May 20 is the same day that Star Tours officially opens at Walt Disney World in Florida.)



Originally reopened as a limited engagement run last year, the Captain EO attraction at Tokyo Disneyland will now remain a permanent attraction.



Disney Channel premieres A.N.T. Farm as a special preview. The new sitcom will start as a regular series in June. The show stars China Anne McClain, Sierra McCormick and Jake Short as middle-schoolers in a gifted program at their local high school called "Advanced Natural Talents" program or A.N.T.

1949 (after working on such classics as Snow White and Dumbo)
to run a ceramics business & a greeting card business.
He returned in 1989 to work on Beauty and the Beast.

2011:

A "black carpet" premiere for Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides takes place at Disneyland. In attendance are such stars from the film as Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Kevin McNally and Keith Richards. Among the celebrities attending are American Idol winner David Cook, actress Teri Hatcher and Disney Channel star Ashley Tisdale. (The film will generally open in U.S. theaters May 20.)



Over on the East Coast, the 4th and final Grad Nite of 2011 (and the very last Grad Nite ever) takes place at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom at 10PM.

A yearly event for high school seniors since 1972, WDW has decided to retire Grad Nite. Who will be the last guests to leave this historic party the following morning on May 8?


2012:

Disney Wonder docks in Honolulu harbor after making the rounds on neighbor
islands. It is the first-ever Disney Cruise Line voyage to Hawaii.

At 4:30AM Kelsey Czako, Samantha Ogden, Kirk Moore, and James Moore

become the last four guest to leave the Magic Kingdom for Walt Disney World's

very last Grad Nite. The final attraction to run at Grad Nite 2011 is Mickey's PhilharMagic. The after-

hours event tailored to high-school seniors began last night, May 7 at 10PM. (A yearly event since 1972,

WDW has decided to retire Grad Nite.)
