Thinking of packing it up.

How do you people live on $8.25/h? I'm having a hard enough time with my $33.40/h nevermind 8 bucks. WOW! I'd be living in a cardboard box eating Fruit Loops.

It also depends on your stage of life and expenses/responsibilities. Could I feed a family and make mortgage payments on $8 an hour? No way, but being a single college aged female I can support myself pretty well on that kind of money when I'm just paying aparment rent, car payment, cell phone bill and utilities plus general living expenses.

Which is why in all honesty if the original poster is interested in leaving to work at Disney, now is the time, it certainly isn't something you'd want to try to do later in life when you have real responsibilities.

Everyone has given their two cents so I'll throw in mine.

STAY IN SCHOOL!!!!!!

I have worked for Disney for many years and wouldn't trade it for the world. Outstanding memories and lots of fun.

but YOU CAN DO THAT AFTER YOU FINISH SCHOOL.

If you have your degree, you will be more competitive for moving up out of the $8/hr jobs...

It is much harder to finish school later than now. You are still young and have plenty of time to try many things. Don't blow your schooling it has become more and more important to at least have that bachelors degree regardless of what it is in.

But it is your life, and you should pursue your dreams as you see fit.

maybe, but im at the point when im realizing when college may not be for me, so an internship I am not putting alot of stock into. I started out fine with engineering but not going to lie its tough and I have speculation i may not meet a min gpa to continue college. you think t is much more expensive then living in the boston area?

Working outside in the heat does not phase me to much I mean I am a landscaper so taking days off for heat is not what I am about.

At Sears I make around $11.00/hr plus bennifits, nothing like that available?

Ok it might not be a bad transition ...$11 an hour in the Boston isn't that much in the grand scheme of things hubby and I were starving on 100k+ a year in the Boston area. But you are also going to to be taking on new expenses living in FL...rent, insurance, utilities, food....it adds up.... $8 an hour might be tight...and car insurance in FL is WAY more expensive than MA....I went from $37 a month in MA to $140 in FL. There are jobs that pay better than Disney....if you look into Polk county towards Lakeland there is Lockheed Martin, Publix corporate and distribution and Geico..going towards Tampa in Brandon there is Coca Cola. And there are dozens of different banks down here. You have retail mgmt experience...you have some options outside of retail..companies like that customer service experience.

Find a decent full time job ....work at Disney part time. Geico offers a generous tuition reimbursement if you change your mind about school and benefits are reasonably priced and they pay fairly well in the area...based on what you are telling me about Sears you'd be making more at Geico taking calls.

Yeah man I would also suggest doing the CP if you're really determined to live in Orlando for a while. Do it, and see if you even like the living situation in Florida. But if I were you, definetley do not move down here, and take a full time position at Disney, cause they're not going to pay you squat. It seems to me that you have a good life right now, going to school, and working at sears. Either do the CP, or finish college, and come down here and see how it goes. Good luck!

Wow, that is amazing. I grew up in Orlando and had fairly cheap insurance until I moved to Houston two years ago to finish school. I was paying roughly $67/month for full coverage in Orlando and when I moved to Houston it jumped to $150-200/month. I wonder if it is just that Insurance companies don't like people moving around so much....LOL

Anyway, I start back at Disney on the 24th at a pretty decent pay rate. And am looking forward to lower rates than in Houston at least...

No...It's because they like to gouge everyone because of all those hurricanes we had a few years back. Try getting home owners insurance in this state...it's a real nightmare.

Mass car insurance is heavily regulated and rates are tightly controlled....which is why a lot of companies won't write policies in that state. The problem in FL is PIP..the state mandated no fault coverage.....lots of fraud. Homeowners is most certainly a mess....I could rent a nice place for the cost of my insurance/tax escrow every month....add in declining home values(I am 50k upside down today I was 40k ahead of the game on paper 18 months ago)....unless you have cash in the bank to pay in full at closing...renting is probably the best option in FL for awhile.

Wow, I have had state farm for over 20 years now and it is within that company that my car insurance has adjusted so dramatically.

I know about homeowners. I was one and got lots of damage from the hurricanes in 2004 which my insurance company (not State Farm for this) refused to help with ($1400 for 1/3 of the roof gone ruined walls carpet ceiling...ridiculous) wound up suing them after arguing with them for 3 months. But the market bubble helped me get debt free so I could finish school which I am very thankful for.
